Your health professional will ask questions about your sexual history, such as:

  • Your age.
  • The type of birth control you use.
  • The type of STD protection you use.
  • Your sex partners and their sexual history.
  • Previous infections and treatment of those infections.
  • Any other symptoms you may have, such as:
    • Discharge from the penis or vagina.
    • Fever.
    • Sores in the genital area or anywhere else on your body.
    • Urinary problems, including frequent urination, burning or stinging with urination, or urinating in small amounts.
    • Pain in the lower abdomen or pelvic area.

These questions are not meant to embarrass you but are asked to help the health professional make a correct diagnosis and offer effective treatment. It is important to answer these questions honestly.
