Besides catching up, you'll help step up her health (and yours, too). Breast cancer survivors who walk the RealAge-recommended 30 minutes a day could boost their odds of staying cancer-free.
Walk a Little, Walk a Lot
In a recent study, researchers found that walking at a moderate pace for 3 to 5 hours a week reduced the risk of dying from breast cancer. Even just 1 hour of feet-moving seemed to have at least some favorable effect. Vigorous exercise was even better (think jogging, swimming laps, playing sports, or riding a bicycle). Hormone Effect
Women with hormone-sensitive breast tumors -- those that rely on estrogen or progesterone to grow -- had particularly good survival outcomes from exercising, suggesting that physical activity positively alters the hormonal response. Improving insulin sensitivity is another way that being active might keep breast cancer from coming back. (Find a fitness buddy on the RealAge community boards.)
