Always follow what your gut feels...

Submitted by Michelle R.

My Story

My husband and I have been together since middle school. We have always had money problems, but you just have to adjust. When I was 20, we had our first child, born prematurely at 26 weeks. She was in the hospital for two months. Three years later we had our second child. We told our doctor all the problems I had with our first and they keep on saying every thing is different the second time around. Don't ever listen to them -- always go on what your gut says. Our second child was born Dec. 18, and she passed away 40 minutes later. She was 24 weeks gestation, and they didn't help her in any way because they said she was too small. That was not true. We came to find out the hospital didn't want to take the time, and they had lost her body.

The Hard Part

Going through Christmas trying to explain to a 3-year-old that her sister is in heaven was the hardest thing to do. I was calling the hospital every day looking for my daughter's body, with the hospital telling me I was crazy. They found her body on Feb. 15, two months later.

Me Now

On May 18, 2004, we had our third child. He came at 29 weeks, and he is just fine. He is now two years old, and we love our family. I just wish we had our angel baby with us.

My Practical Advice

My comment to every mother is never listen to the doctor -- keep asking questions and and never let them treat you like you are a second class. If you are done wrong, never let it go. Keep searching for your answers because some closure will come, and it will hurt like hell, but at least you will know.
