Most women will experience an increased urge to urinate during pregnancy. This is a normal body response and not a concern. It is related to hormones as well as the physical pressure of the growing baby against the bladder.

Bladder infections are more common when you are pregnant because of increased bacteria in the urine. When you are pregnant and have a bladder infection, the urge to urinate comes on abruptly.

Bladder infections during pregnancy are linked with an increased risk of kidney infections, miscarriage, and premature or low-birth-weight babies. Call your health professional if you are pregnant and have symptoms of a bladder infection.
