A terrific way out of morning weakness is practising to stretch every morning before heading to the bathroom. A simply version is to stretch both arms and swing them left to right perpendicular to the body, followed by alternate touching of toes with hands in a forward beniding position keeping both legs strtaight and one foot apart. These could be repeated ten times daily. A bonus is to add spot running/jogging for 3-5 minutes. All the excercises could be gradually increased as body gets used to the routine.

Just this summer, I had major pain with my sciatic nerve in my left leg. Oh my GOD, the pain I would feel when I tried to sit all day at work. My doctor told me to take it easy and I did for about two months. Then, I couldn't take the pain anymore. I started exercising again and in about two weeks, my pain was 100% gone. I didn't have to take advil or anything else to make it go away. Exercise is truly one of the best ways to heal the body!!!

Excellent ideas. I would add on the "muscle tone" part, the increased strength of the muscles may help support the skeleton and joints, lessening the joint or back pain, as with my chronically painful back.

I have recently found out that I have a severe case of arthritis. I make sure I exercise regularly, both to reduce the pain and to keep in better shape. It seems to work well for me, I'm sure it will help others as much. Incidently, I turned 61 years old last month, I'm 6ft.2 1/2 inches tall and I weigh in at 178lbs.

Howard, I think you can further the idea of muscle tone quit a bit. One of the main causes of chronic pain is poor posture. It's often overlooked, because most "experts" don't perceive the body as an interrelated system. If anyone spends time improving muscle balance, and relearning good posture, it will go a long way to ending their pain without drugs, surgery, and/or anything else. It's all about self-empowerment.
