I have Lupus, and true steroids do help control pain during a flare, I also would like to add that you should always have your doctor properly monitor your usage and not stay on them longer than necessary... I have found with Lupus...my case...it has caused bone density...destroying my teeth, and yes, my bones brittle. I just take them now during severe flares.

A 65yr old Diabetic patient ,suffering from chronic Psoriasis, has been receiving 1ml of Inj Dexamethosone once in 10 days for the past 2 yrs without any increase in his blood sugar. His skin condition that is almost back to normal , has made him happy and acceptable to those who had shunned him previously. Can I continue with this treatment or should stop? Dr Samuel.

We use lots of topical and oral steroids to control inflammation in the skin in dermatology. They are powerful and effective tools, but as you suggest, have to be used judiciously -- some skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis can get much worse right after you stop taking an oral steroid.

I have SLE(lupus) and have been taking prednisone (steriods) for over 10 yrs.. I have some weight gain and slight sugar elevation but these are very small side effects considering how very, very sick I was. I have a job which requires physical demands at times and I also walk alot. Thanks to prednisone I am able to still work and walk alot. I have a great doctor who I see regularly.
