Dr. Peter Whitehouse reviews medical content for Healthwise, a nonprofit organization with a mission to help people make better health decisions. Dr. Whitehouse specializes in neurology with an interest in geriatrics and neuropsychology and a focus on dementia. He is an internationally–known researcher and author on alzheimer's disease and dementia. Dr. Whitehouse organized a worldwide group of 300 researchers striving to improve regulatory drug guidelines. He is editor-in-chief of Alzheimer's Disease and Associated Disorders: An International Journal, and editor of Dementia, a definitive reference on geriatric psychiatry, neuropsychology and neurology.
Dr. Whitehouse is active in research with his primary focus on clinical neuroscience, particularly relating to cholinergic systems, drug development, and complementary therapies. Other areas include clinical phenomenology, neuropsychology, interdisciplinary care, health care systems and bioethics.
The Alzheimer Center of University Hospitals of Cleveland/Case Western Reserve University was funded with a plan written by Dr. Whitehouse who served as its Founding Director. It is a National Institute on Aging Alzheimer Disease Research Center. The Center garnered a national award for best community use of the Internet in 1995 and was locally honored with a Jennifer Langston Community Service Award from the Alzheimer Association in 1991.
