Avoids micromanaging. Don't do everything for your parent.Keeping a parent busy will help maintain independence, preserve dignity and boost morale. It also helps you to maintain your life balance.
-
Is encouraging. Try to lessen your parent's frustration, when it becomes difficult to complete tasks as well or as quickly as before.
-
Is a problem-solver. Get your parent to buy into solutions you propose. And remember that they may provide insight or helpful information based on their years of experience.
-
Monitors changes in health status.Paying attention to progressive memory or hearing loss, decrease in cognitive ability and vision impairment can help you keep them safer.
-
Is a good listener. Don't forget to put aside a bit of time to sit and chat.
