Most breast infections will clear up with medical treatment. Be sure to follow your health professional's instructions on how to treat your breast infection.
Symptoms that persist or worsen after 3 to 4 days of treatment with antibiotics or symptoms that return after you have completed treatment with antibiotics may indicate a need to reevaluate your symptoms.
Sometimes a different strength or type of antibiotic may be needed to cure the infection. In some cases, tests such as an ultrasound may be needed to determine whether an abscess is present.
