Surgery

Two surgical treatments, vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty, may relieve pain from spinal compression fractures resulting from osteoporosis. In these procedures, a surgeon injects bone cement into the crushed spinal bones (vertebrae) through a needle.

If you experience a hip fracture due to osteoporosis, you may need surgery to repair your hip. For more information, see the topic Hip Fracture.
