When you have a nosebleed, it is important to determine if you have other symptoms of a health problem, such as other bleeding or abnormal bruising. Other symptoms of a more serious health condition include:
- An increase in the number and severity of bruises.
- Abnormal vaginal bleeding, such as more frequent or heavier menstrual periods.
- Blood in the stool or blood leaking from the rectum.
- Bloody or pink urine that is not related either to menstrual blood in the urine or to dietary factors.
- Bleeding gums.
Nonprescription and prescription medications may also cause abnormal bruising or bleeding. If you have noticed abnormal bleeding after starting a new medication, call your health professional to discuss your symptoms. Be sure that your doctor has a complete list of all the medications you are taking. This list should include any including vitamins or herbal supplements.
