Doctors may use surgical techniques other than plantar fascia release for chronic heel pain and/or plantar fasciitis. These usually are done in combination with plantar fascia release when there is prolonged heel pain and another heel problem.
These surgeries include:
- Removing a heel spur, occasionally done with plantar fascia release.
- Different types of surgery on the bones of the feet.
- Stretching or loosening of specific foot nerves (neurolysis) and removal or severing of specific foot nerves (neurectomy).
