During the physical exam for schizophrenia, the health professional will:

  • Check a person's weight and compare it with his or her usual weight.
  • Look for rapid eye movements, increased rate of blinking, and the inability to follow an object with the eyes.
  • Check for unusual movements, such as uncontrollable body or facial twitches.
  • Watch for unusual and repeated movements, such as pacing or cocking the head to the side as if listening to another person speak.
