Hepatitis C mostly causes damage to the liver. But it can also play a role in other problems that may develop, such as:
- Porphyria cutanea tarda, a disorder that makes your skin sensitive to sunlight.
- Lichen planus, a skin disease that causes itchy, inflamed bumps.
- Sialadenitis, which is inflammation of your salivary glands.
- Keratoconjunctivitis sicca, a disorder that causes itchy, dry eyes.
- Mooren's ulcer, which is thinning of the clear covering (cornea) of your eye.
- Cryoglobulinemia, which is abnormal amounts of a certain blood protein that can damage or block blood vessels.
- Membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis, a kidney disease.
- An increase in your number of rheumatoid factors, which are antibodies that indicate you have an infection.
