Very useful topic. My BP has been on the rise of recent 130/90 and I am 50 years old. I will put what I have read here into practice by engaging in regular physical exercise and watch my calorie intake.Thank you.

Its fine .Could you please advise if one is using medicines for controlling pressure for last few years and find it normal or under control at present ( for quite some time ) whether medication could be stopped without any problem. Doctors say the medicine should be continued . Nath

I've just read three articles by Dr. Levy and consider them to be extremely well written. They are thorough and clear. Was he an English major before med school? I am really impressed! For years I heard 120/80 are the normal/healthy levels. Lately, I've read that it should be below that, (so much confusion) so I appreciate reading this article from a highly-regarded facility such as Johns Hopkins. I have been taking blood pressure medicine now for 2 years and with the aid of the medication, my levels have been averaging between 117/78 and 130/74. I am in the processing of losing weight (am about 50 pounds over weight) hoping to be able to stop taking the medication. Doing quite well in this area, so hopefully, by the summer, I will off of the medication.

I Love this chronicle, because I never understand the reading of blood pressure, until as i am getting older my reading lately was 138/105 , i am 46years of age, slim built, so this ifo will certainly help me.

one day i felt real dizzy, i check my blood pressure it was 187\120. I laid down and rest for a minute when i recheck it, it was 170\117. Im on blood preesuer pills but they dont seem to work
