As an audiologist, I was very disappointed in your simplistic explanation of hearing loss. Shoot - just a silly thing between spouses. I recommend that you wear earplugs for a day and experience the impact of a mild loss. The frustration and emotional drain is overwhelming. Certainly, you would not be able to function in your current capacity. How effective would you be if you could not understand your patients verbal communication? With your forum, I was surprised that you chose not to enlighten your audience about the "invisible handicap" that millions find crippling. I suggest that you visit the audiology department at John Hopkins. They have much to teach you.

If you have concerns about your or any of your family members hearing, you can get them to do a free, quick, online hearing check here: www.rnid.org.uk/hearingcheckaug. This will let you know if their hearing is within the 'normal' range or not. Hope it is helpful for some of you out there Best wishes Hx
