To me it is very simple: if you have cancer, you get help. If you have depression, you get help with a therapist and medication if needed. My husband was a therapist, he said he did not want to talk to anyone else, although I tried. He took an anti-depressant. He drank and would not stop. In July 2005, he committed suicide. Leaving behind an 8 year old daughter and me. If someone you love is depressed, it is YOUR responsibility to get them help. Yes, you can take the horse to water and he may not drink, but if the horse died and you did nothing, how would you feel? I miss him, yet I know I did ALL I could do. Get help for yourself or a friend.
