Marco S... please shut up. This is not some sort of conspiracy theory like 9/11 or the illegal Tax system. I'm fully aware of everything around me but I still suffer from Bipolar Disorder... This is a MENTAL disease/disorder that could have stemmed from a REALLY bad childhood memory...Such as seeing someone you loved, killed right in front of you or being abducted and raped... Normal therapy doesn't work. So WAKE UP and realize technology and science is not after us... and to Alison, yes Bipolar patients DO have episodes than can last from a few minutes to hours and change suddenly.

Yes people can get brain illnesses; unless you are born perfect- you know, you are a god and your physical body never breaks down. Yes medications can be used wisely and also abused. A good informative piece in my opinion. Oh yeah, pharmaceutical companies do make a lot of money. It's called capitalism. You make a good product and they will come.

I've never quite been able to summarize this condition that is known to members of my family to be a second nature. Showing him this article will help. Thank you.

To MacroS and other naysayers as to the reality of depressive disorders: don't preach about things you clearly don't understand. I do nothing wrong like cheating on my spouse or stealing or whatever MacroS suggested may cause me to feel "guilty." It's just the way I am. And it's no thanks to people like MacroS that I have difficulty talking about this state that controls the way I live every day. Sure, people probably coped with depression in various ways before the advent of medication-- but I'm sure they did the same with headaches. Why should I cope with something alone if there's something that can help me along the way? So, MacroS: I hope you never take any medication, you Bible-black fool.

I found this info to be in agreement with other proffessionals opinion of signs to watch for.I found this to be simple reading for the lay person.Great to see physical pain can increase when one is depressed, that isn't widley known.

Why not look first for autoimmune diseases? They treated me for five years (quite unsucessfully, of course) for depression and finally, a less stubborn doctor ordered some blood tests (AAN, LA, RO) and I turned out to have a Sjogren's syndrome with fibromyalgia. This was not much better, either (these diseases are not curable and a secondary Sjogren may very well kill you), but at least I know what ails me and I have stopped feeling anxious and angry. "Depression" and "viruses" (unknown for their most part) are the easiest ways out of the hook for incompetent doctors: shame on them!
