I hear there is a new genetic test called KIF6 gentoype, that identifies increased CHD risk in carriers of the gene variant, and event reduction during statin therapy. I read that 49,000 patients were tested in six clinical trials, and it was shown that 60% of the patients were carriers of KIF6, and had up to 55% event-risk compared to non-carriers. I guess that would make KIF6 an underlying genetic risk factor that should be looked at, like smoking and diabetes since statin therapy was shown to reduce risk.
