3 Tips for Remaining Sane in an Insane Economy

Either way, I've got some tips on how you can remain positive in these trying times. The following advice doesn't involve switching to gumballs and edamame. Rather, I'd like to share some suggestions on how to embrace simple pleasures and creative ideas for making this year one of the best years ever (in spite of the economy!).

Get Primitive to Unleash Your Power

Imagine life with no Internet, no cell phones. It’d be like 1980 all over again. Wait, no. Imagine life with no fax machines, no computers. It’d be like 1970 all over again. Wait, no. Imagine life with no beer, no sushi. It'd be like the 1920's all over again. Wait, no. There'd be nothing these primitive folks had but their body and breath and stone age tools. While there's so much they lack, what these primitive people must have in great abundance is a rich connection to spirit and an impossibly clear sense of intuition, imagination, and love.

Coping with Tragedy

I saw the most heartwrenching image on the cover of a newspaper (see above photo). It's a photo of a couple carrying away their deceased child from the earthquake wreckage in China. You might agree that it's such an awful feeling, to view the couples' distraught facial expressions. In addition to the suspected loss of over 120,000 people in Myanmar, this tragedy puts everything into perspective.

5 Signs That You Have an Ego Problem

There are two kinds of people: takers and givers. Sometimes we are all takers. And sometimes we are all givers. People who are large in the ways of the ego consume a lot. It’s not food they consume but rather your money, time, and confidence. Takers deplete your energy. They make you feel tired, insecure, and uncomfortable. We all know those people (sometimes we are those people) that make you feel as if you smoked two stale cigarettes while hungover under a hot Mexican sun on a Monday morning. Those people are takers.

Succeed in Life: Stop and Listen

We all spend so much time asserting ourselves to succeed in our jobs, in our relationships, in our marriages. Who in their right mind doesn’t aspire to be a superstar as a parent, to stand out in their company, or to win the heart of a lover? In one’s effort to succeed and stand out, it’s easy to throw life into overdrive leaving little time to stop, lie down and listen. The humbling idea of blending in requires time, skill and practice.

Get Back to Nature For Better Health

“I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it.” -Alice Walker

What if there was proof of intelligent life in the universe? And what if this intelligence was not human, yet far exceeded the limits of the human brain? And what if we discovered this life existed right here on earth for thousands and thousands of years?

Scientists are marveling at the discovery of a higher form of life existing right in your backyard. That’s right… nature is full of intelligent life and brilliant technologies that are far more advanced than anything humans could possibly imagine.

3 Tips for Finding More Meaning in Life

“If death meant just leaving the stage long enough to change costume and come back as a new character... Would you slow down? Or speed up?” -Chuck Palahniuk

Imagine this scenario: You quit your job, sell your stuff, give away your money, and venture into the wilderness. Sound familiar? Such is the premise of Into the Wild, the powerful, true life story of Chris McCandless. McCandless graduated from Emory University in 1990, gave away his savings, burned the rest of his money, and stripped down to the bare essentials before winding up in the extreme wilderness of Alaska.

3 Ways to Become a Kid Again

I spent yesterday at Disneyland. One word of advice… avoid Disneyland during Spring Break. It felt as if you needed to wait in line to walk around, let alone to ride Space Mountain or Pirates of the Caribbean. There’s something wrong about enduring 65 minutes in line for a 1-minute roller coaster thrill.

Meanwhile, my little 2-year-old cousin had a different gameplan to navigate the chaos.

It’s happening more and more. You look around in a crowded coffee shop, or in the airport security line or at a sporting event. Everyone, and I mean everyone, is on their cell phone, or sending a text message or checking their emails. There is now a term for this state of mind: “continuous partial attention.”*

Emotions: How to Tune Into Them

Imagine if there was a newfound power inherent in all human beings. And that by embracing this power, you would be more effective in the workplace, better at connecting deeply in your relationships, and more aware as a parent.

Modern research proves such a power exists, and it can affect all of our lives. As Drew Westin discusses in his book The Political Brain, by appealing to another’s emotions rather than their intellect, you are much more likely to trigger a response.
