Lets hear it for the right hemisphere !!! Woo Hoo !!! The power of our emotions do alot more than we are conscious of. Emotions can and do create our enviornment. The power of thoughts and feelings have an enormous affect on our health and the condition of our world. Inner world and outer world are all connected. They affect each other. They can help or hurt the other and I wish more people would become conscious of this fact, the world would benifit tremendously if we can help people become aware of these things ( Good Job Dave !!! ) We could all become much healthier and our planet would too. The paths are there.Alot of people are on the path of self destruction and don't even know it.

I dreamed I went back 30 years and told my friends what we looked like in the future, what our health was like and who died from which diseases, so they could have a chance to have a better outcome. Then I wished for somone to give me a heads up about how my choices look in the next 30 years. I'm keeping eyes and ears and dream-mind open... Peace all. Whiteoakmiracle

Fact: emotions happen first; our thoughts provoke emotional states and moods; emotions are biological in origin and have physiological affects. So, the more "good" emotions we have and foster, the more we are going to feel good, think well, and be healthy! I highly recommend "Emotional Intelligence" by Daniel Goleman. The rational mind has been valued over emotions, and look at the state of the world today! The other problem is labelling emotions "good" or "bad" - all emotions have their purpose! We are emotional beings and need to experience and relish them all! What's the fun of a roller-coaster without the zing of fear, how would injustices against the helpless be addressed without stirring our anger, and denial of our grief at the loss of a loved pet is denial of the love and joy it brought to our life! True, we should not be ruled by our emotions, but it is high time we took down all the shields and barriers, took off the masks and artifice, and related as the emotional human beings that we are!

Ever wonder why children can get upset or angry and 5 minutes later are gigling and happy again? Because they don't try to suppress or hang onto their feelings! They experience them and move on to the good stuff. Let the love move you to expansive expressions of affection, the joy make you giddy and silly, compassion allow you to cry and reach out to another who is suffering... feel! Feelings are exciting, wonderful, energizing, inspiring and freeing!

the human being that makes me think is an intelligent human being that's capable of conveying himself or herself in a rational manner, using good judgement more often than not, and doesn't place his or her emotions above the reality of a situation. the human being that makes me feel is one who is conveying himself or herself from their emotions. a balance of both logic and emotion are needed to be healthy. to put your emotional state above logic and always operate from a base of your emotions just shows you to be irrational and illogical. that is why the world is in the state it's in. too many cast aside the facts or reality of a situation in preference for their feelings whether it's negative or positive. that is plain idiocy. a person who can operate from both logic and emotion is more likely to have objectity, good judgement, and a healthy emotional state.

7 - Ricecake, have you read "Emotional Intelligence"? If you haven't, you should, I bet you would appreciate it as it is very much in line with what you are saying. We need to be aware of and understand emotions, BUT not be driven by them. Balance. That is EQ, and it is sorely lacking in today's world!

Give the Rush "Hemispheres" album a listen......The song Cygnus X-1 (book two).....long song but has alot to say about this balance. " ......and we will call you Cygnus ! The god of balance you shall be......" Neil Peart.

Hi Ya'll, I've found that while I have little success with choosing what NOT to feel, I have better luck choosing what I would like to feel. Emotions- energy in motion!

9: No, I haven't read Emotional Intelligence whirlingwhitewind. I'm surprised that book is in line with what I'm saying. The title of it always turned me off when I saw it because it seemed like such an oxymoron to me. It struck me like it was trying to defend emotions as being equivalent to intelligence by placing the two words together. Since I disagree with that, I never bothered to read it. If the premise of that book is like you say though, just having a healthy balance of both emotions and intelligence (and not equating one with the other), then I will definitely read it. Thanks for the reference.

13 - The idea of emotional intelligence is in understanding and being aware of our emotions and how they affect our relationships, interactions, etc. Childhood development is obviously a key area, and how it then affects our social interactions and such. He distinguishes this from IQ by refering to it as EQ, as they are indeed different. Basically his premise is that emotional intelligence is much more significant a factor in our ability to succeed in life than rational intelligence (eg - a socially inept genius may have a great career but no friends or partner). That we need to raise children so that they are emotionally healthy and self-aware. A very well researched and written book - he refers to a lot of studies and science, so it is not just another pop-culture fluff book. I think you would find it interesting.

    14. My observation is that genius' without EQ usually don't have a great career, without a vivacious wife! They find their balance through their partner's emotional and social skills.
