David...Most excellent topic! I too agree somethings gotta give..as a partner in a business and working virtually I find the calls just keep rolling in...I don't get so many e-mails though, so i love receiving them!...I like to send snail mail cards and a little gift over e-mails, i think they are more personal, and i can take the time to write thoughts and events, and i am sooo guilty of sending more than 1 e-mail a day and its mostly cause i can't call some people and get all the thoughts and good wishes in all at once...i have been trying to write my many thoughts down and include them in one email(some say dang that is too long girl!) less often..i have this wow i'm thinking of you and i miss you so i think i'll shoot you an email syndrome..LOL! I totally agree on the cell phone thing too, i have long ago decided that it is not right, even for my business calls..i either leave it in the car, or put it on buzz and bury it in my purse!! I think it shows love and respect in the personal world, and basic respect in the business world..depending on who you are meeting with.......we all need to relax more, we all need to go off the grid more, but we all need to still connect sometimes, share the feelings....its great to hear a voice, but better see a smile and share a hug... (just not so often i guess).. Love the Carolyn Myss quote.

I don't have cable or satellite (just rabbit ears!). I also don't have a cell. Both just seemed like needless monthly bills. Now that it's just me, I'm considering getting a cell because I think it would help me feel safer. Besides, it's getting really tough to find payphones these days!

Catnap - cell phones are also crucial in case your car ever broke down in the middle of nowhere.

afac, I know, but I've seen cell phones not work in the middle of nowhere too! I really am on the verge of getting one. A really generous friend offered to add me to her family plan 'cos they never use even half of the anytime minutes they get and it would only cost me $10 a month. Or I'll just get the pay-as-you-go kind. I'm putting it off 'cos once I get it, I know I'll never be able to do w/o it! And I carry small purses for the same reason so it won't fit in my purse!

I know you're both right - the safety factor IS the main reason I'm on the verge of getting one. The world is not getting safer by the day...just the opposite.

With all the new technology coming out, it gets very confusing at times learning how to work newer and more complicated gadgets. But, I'm thankful for the technology we have because it does come in handy. A cell phone is very good for safety and in emergencies. Here's a few tips that I've come across. When you're adding your contacts, make sure they are in names you remember, and names you can come across quickly. Put emergency contacts on speed dial, few key dial, or voice dial. And, in the event you can't make the call, and emergency personnel come to your aide (this tip worked for me not too long ago)put the letters ICE in front of your emergency contacts. ICE= In Case of Emergency. While just putting clear contact names works, ICE just saves precious time. Y'all have a nice day.

Technology is very useful but it has it's own energy and casts out those vibrations and we feel them at a level most people are not aware of. Turning all these devices off for a while is both healthy and I think neccassary if you don't want your own natural energy field to be affected in an adverse way. Just on cell phones alone I see alot of bad things happen because of their presence and the way people use them. Don't get me wrong, I have one and use it too. I like to get away from it at times as well. Getting away from it all is very healing for me. I like the mountains with no TV's, telephones, computers, and even play less music when in that natural enviornment. There is natural music instead. The ocean is a good place to go to it seems to have more comotion going on than the woods. The ocean is great at night though. Carolyn Myss hit the nail on the head with that quote. Happy trails everyone!!!

hi scottgadke! I too love going off the grid in the mountains, a hike, a bike, an awesome book and a breeze...but you know it is the ocean that hheals and energizes me all at once, and the big horizon reminds me of a wise friend who has a phrase i love..Surmisin' the Horizon...its endless possibilities...That message actually popped into my head in a long savasana this morning..it made me ever the more grateful for the support group i have...hugs to all!
