    Why are the complications that came happen from this exam not included here?

    I HAD NO IDEA THAT YOU COULD STILL GET A PAP WHILE ON YOUR PERIOD. I ALWAYS CANCEL MY APPOINMENTS WHEN THAT HAPPENS. THANKS.

    Research does not support having a pap smear every year. Many countries support having a pap smear performed every 3 years. Research has also shown pelvic exams to be of little to no value in asymptomatic women. Here is a great article on the subject: http://www.racgp.org.au/Content/NavigationMenu

    Something to note, as it's been my experience and I just found out why: If the cervix is high, the pelvic exam may be more uncomfortable -- so if it hurts, don't beat yourself up over not being relaxed enough, etc. Just breathe through it, let the doctor know so s/he can try to be as gentle as possible, and know that it's not your fault. :)
