well, personally i have had a bad experience with every form of birth control i have tried. we ( my Gyno and I) finally came to the conclusion that hormones were not good for my body. i bled more ( like everyday i was on the shot,, and spotted everyday i was on the pill, plus heavier periods.), which caused me to be anemic, never had cramps until after i got on the pill, had blackouts, legs would collapse, and terrible migranes, plus bad acne outbreaks. i experienced this from the pill and the shot. the patch made me grow a big knot where it was placed the first two days i had it on. I had to take it off that second day and go to the doctor. the knot stayed for two weeks and all kind of test had to be done.

Melasma (discoloration of areas of the face) is also a side-effect for some women who take oral contraceptives. It is the stimulation of melanocytes to produce more melanin pigments due to changes in levels of female sex-hormones (progesterone and estrogen). While it is not life-threatening or harmful on any physical level, it can be difficult to become accustomed to the change in how one's face appears, and thus psychologically or emotionally challenging for some women. It's really about vanity, but that can sometimes cause stress for women.
