Dr. Weil, I was told by a neurologist recently that I have mild CTS. It only bothers me sometimes at night since I often wake up the numbness in usually both of my hands -- nowhere else. Am I doing wrong by not at least wearing something on my wrists at night? What more should I focus on doing for this mild CTS? JoAnne McMahon at josie2542@yahoo.com

I have the exact symptoms listed and reported them to my family physician. He said I do not have CTS, it is tendonitis and prescribed Naprosyn 500 mg twice a day and advised me to wear my wrist splints at night and at work. Is there anything wrong with this treatment plan, in your opinion? Thank you.

I have had two surgeries on both thumbs due to dequarvines disease that affects my thumbs and wrists on both hands. It wasn't carpotunnel but was wondering if your findings that it is not related to work, but a person is predisposed to having this could it be true in m case also? Could this not have been work related? Could I be predisposed to having Dequarvines Disease?

Working in the computer world, I was quite aware of CTS, but was very surprised when I developed it, and found out it was a fairly common occurrence during pregnancy I was almost 8 months pregnant when I figured I had CTS)! About a month or so after my daughter was born I was back to normal with only occasional flare-ups in the right hand - it had been so bad in my right hand & arm I had to wear a support and the numbness in 2 fingers was constant. I still occasionally have episodes but nothing like I had when I was pregnant!

Interesting. I usually have wrist pain during my hectic work periods (this being one) but I've been taking multi-vitamins with a concentration of the B vitamins. The pain hasn't been as bad this time as others. It probably also helps that I've cut back from 60 hour work weeks to 40 (had to, too painful). I'm sure the B6 doesn't hurt. It's probably a combination of more careful behaviors. Thanks.

Taking vitamin B6 while breastfeeding can suppress milk production although taking it during pregnancy will suppress nausea.
