I just have a ovarian cycst removed due to endometriosis. I am currently on birth control pills as advised by my ob/gyn. But he told me that all birth control pills are the same but from my reading, there are different kind with different percentage of estrogen.Do know agree that it doesn't make a difference in terms of which birth control pills that I take?Which one would u recommend? I am avoiding estrogen as u mention. I used to have a lot soy milk to replace cow's milk since most alternative health books said that cow's milk is bad. But now, where can I get my calcium since I am avoiding soy product as well?

I think you underplay the disease. I have had 3 laparotomies, 10 laparoscopies and a TAHBSO. Endometriosis is no picnic. And there are such varying degrees of the illness which your article doesn't seem to highlight. And why didn't you mention the Endometriosis Assn because it is a well established provider of info on the subject...?

I agree with mooretitle when she wrote that the disease is not spoke of often. And I am the 13th member of my family to have a complete hysterectomy.(then 23 yrs old)now at 39 years old. I was told that my only child a daughter would have a 80% of having endometriosis as well. She is only 18 years old and use's depo injections for birth control. I have let her health care provider know of our family history, but I would love to know if there is anything I should do to ensure that she doesn't have to go through what I had to go through. God bless Dr. Andrew Weil, MD. for having the discussion on this painful disease. I can only hope & pray to put an end to endometriosis for the sake of all women.

I never realized how many women suffer with this disease. I am 23 years old and recently had my fourth laparoscopy. My uterus has been suspended & "unsuspended". When I was diagnosed at the age of 15, I had no idea what they were talking about. Ovarian cysts? Endometriosis? I just want to thank you & other doctors for taking the time to inform women about this disease. I just wish there were more specialists out there to help.

After several laparoscopies and being cut from hip bone to hip bone 4 times, I had a complete hysterectomy when I was 29. My question is........Does the pain ever really go away? I was told by my OBGYN that I needed Another surgery to clean up scare tissue and more Endometriosis which is attached to my bladder and bowels. Does it continue to grow even after a hysterectomy? I'm 43 now. Can't take much more pain!

My endo was diagnosed at stage 4 I have had several surgeries including my lrft ovary out. Its so bad now that my bowels and bladder are affected, The complications from this disease has left me completely disabled and geting anyone to hear my voice was next to impossible! This disease controls every part of my being robbed me of many lives and friends along the way, it is the most underdiagnosed reproductive problem. I know mine has left me homeless and I am an educated medical professional who spends her left single in pain daily curled up on a heating pad and now medicated with pain meds and anti depressants, waiting for the hope of a cure. Until I heard the words oncologist I didnt relieze this disease could become cancer, its not rare like I thought its real and had the Dr's been aware of at least what it is, I may have had a chance at a cacner free life. I want a cure to come soon so girls that come along long after I am gone have the life we all deserve!

I was diagnosed with this painful disease and underwent surgery for the first time a few days before my 24th bday(now 26). I feel alot of people underplay this disease. I am moved to know that more people are becoming aware and involved and endo is becoming more heard of as well as the fact that people seem to actually try to find a cure. I am apart of a study the PETAL Study for anyone who may have heard the advertisement on the radio and I must say the meds that I take really helped with the pain. I used to be in so much pain before and after the sugery but when I became apart of the study I definitely noticed a difference.
