Thank you for this good information. I am confused on one point: You state that the women were Chinese and also that "All bets are off if a Chinese woman has switched to eating a westernized diet." Also, you refer to an epidemiological study showing that Chinese people eating the traditional diet have lower breast cancer rates. So, did this study include only Chinese women eating the traditional diet? Were they living in China? Obviously, I can and will increase my mushroom and green tea consumption. But please clear up this confusion for me and other readers. Thank you, Betty Betty

...here's something also interesting: It has been found that Japanese women have the lowest incidence of breast cancer on the planet. However, when a woman emigrates from Japan to the U.S. (or any other country), her rates spike to match those of women from that country. Could it be environmental factors that play an important, if not vital, role in determining breast cancer rates? So, is it the mushrooms and tea of these Chinese women, or is it the composition of the air, soil, and water they come into contact with? (That's rhetorical, by the way. The answer is environmental.)

Traditional Chinese diets include very little meat and few dairy products, thus removing hormone saturated foods from their diets. This report is more hype to fill more media space. By working backwards you can prove that vegetables give one cancer because all people with cancer have eaten vegetables. It is time to take a good look at fat and hormones in the American diet which is heavy into sugar, fat and additives. Unfortunately the lobbies are richer and stronger than the average American. Green tea is good but fewer hormones would be ideal!
