About The Expert Provided by: Johns Hopkins University

Cheryl Koch, M.S., R.D.

Hello and welcome to this nutrition and weight management blog. I'm Cheryl Koch, a registered dietitian and director of the food and clinical nutrition programs at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

Since joining the Hopkins Bayview team in 1993, I've enjoyed a range of experiences in the food and nutrition departments, starting with a clinical focus as dietitian for the inpatient cardiac care unit and general medicine unit. Since then, my role has grown, and I now oversee a variety of programs and staff: dietitians, exercise physiologists, psychologists, an executive chef, food service managers, and employees. These programs include the Johns Hopkins Weight Management Center, inpatient and outpatient clinical nutrition services, our Dietetic Internship Program, and the food services department.

As part of my professional interests, I have always been active in the Maryland Dietetic Association, in which I've served as clinical division chair and state president. On the national level, I currently am a volunteer site visitor for the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education and a member of the Food and Nutrition Conference and Exhibition Program's planning advisory committee. In conjunction with many of these volunteer and work opportunities, I have given presentations at the state, regional, and national levels on nutrition topics and management-related issues.

One of the things I enjoy most about my job is teaching future dietetic and nutrition professionals. Most of this teaching occurs as part of the 42-week post-baccalaureate Dietetic Internship Program at Johns Hopkins Bayview, which prepares students for the Commission on Dietetics Registration Exam. Students pay close attention to the information we provide and constantly ask questions, ensuring that I stay current in all nutrition topics and areas of interest.

I look forward to sharing nutrition and weight management information with you, and I hope that you will take the time to share your comments and questions -- which I welcome!
