I highly suggest looking into the "Body by God" program by Dr. Ben Lerner. My body has changed and my life focus is much more directed now. The program is a full lifestyle makeover...stress management, time management, eating, exercise, life mission... It is wonderful!

I believe in listening to your body-eating when you are hungry, and not overindulging. I am one of those people who eats all day long and everyone at my work always comments on it. They can't believe how much I eat and I don't gain weight. The thing is that I eat a lot of fruits and vegggies, I don't put very much dressing on my salads, and i rarely indulge in sweets. Plus I drink A TON of water, and I don't put sugar in my coffee and tea. Since I have been listening to my body, I have learned that i was gassy and bloated a lot, and that had to do with my inability to be able to digest regular milk. Now that I have switched to non-fat milk, and avoid cheeses, ice cream and other dairy products, i have lost weight due to the bloating decreasing. Plus I feel better too!! Adding fiber also has helped a lot...being regular makes you feel better and be slimmer too. On top of that I quit drinking and in the past year and a half have lost 15 pounds!! I still eat red meats, potato chips and occasionally indulge in a glass of wine or chocolate bar, but i have added so much to my diet, there was nothing to lose but the excess weight!! I am now down to the weight that it says on my Drivers license, which of course was an exagerration at the time of its issue!!

Body by God and reverse PCOS, high blood sugar, high anything for that matter, and approaches changes at a rate that is slow and steady. I have tried everything on the planet and never had any luck. I, too, had PCOS, was incredibly overweight and was borderline diabetic. Give it a try.

For a sugar substitute I use Stevia. I have been told that is a natural sweetener that does not affect blood sugar. To learn more about stevia, check the search engines. I also have a website which is about the health benefits of drinking water: http://members.aol.com/SaveMoDoe2/importance.htm

Flaxseed, flaxseed, flaxseed. 2 tablespoons per day and you will never have swollen, bloated stomaches, ankles, whatever. It will get rid of the cholesterol for sure. Read up on it - and start taking it - it tastes great. In the old days - everyone took a tablespoon of Cod Liver oil... which tastes terrible. I swear by flaxseed. It has helped me, and all my friends, neighbours, everyone I know!!!

This is a good conversation you have going here. I would like to comment on some individuals’ inability to lose weight. When I hear people say things like "I walk 4 miles 5 days a week but can't lose weight", my first reaction is that their intensity is not high enough. For example: After college, and my football career was over, I porked up to 315 lbs. I started jogging and eventually dropped down to 255 lbs. It wasn't until I started lifting and doing sprints that I was able to drop the last 30 to what I thought was a healthy weight. One gets to a point where the body adapts to what is asked of it. It is not until you ask it to do more that it changes (for the better) and adapts again. My wife found the same thing after our son was born. She was walking and doing her work out tapes in front of the TV, but it wasn't until she starting pushing herself like an athlete that she began looking like one again. Thank you for your time...

tessnob: Hey I know what you are going thru. I had to lower my reading from 7.8. It was down to 6.2 on my last appt. They say I am pre-diabetic, but the distinction doesn't really mean a thing to me when it comes to caring for this condition because I do the same things as a diabetic to get it under control. I am just lucky to know early and maybe control it so I never have to go on meds! Nutrition and exercise were my weapon of choice. Still are. I saw a CDE and she recommended to lower down to 30-45 carbs a meal, which would also hopefully help with weight loss. It would be really great if you could get an appt with a Certified Diabetic Educator to guide you for your particular needs (we are all different) and if you are on medications you may need to do things differently. Also, what has been a really big help to me is the American Diabetic Association website. They have message boards with lots of very supportive people. Like others have said fruits, vegetables, lean protein, whole grains, beans/legumes. Whole foods. I like the South Beach Cookbook for lower carb/lower fat recipes. Also, test test test with your meter (If you don't have a blood glucose meter the CDE can help you or you can pick one up at the drug store) to see how your meals affect your blood sugar! Good luck and keep us posted!

Even though I am about 20-25# over weight I ahve good health. 152 & 5 feet 1. I know I will be unhealthy if I dont loose the weight now. I really need to drop those 25# for an upcoming event as well in 2months. (x geting married and I have to be there for the kids) So I want to look my utmost best. I travel almost 24/7 flying with my job so its hard to get in a routine when everywhere I go its a different hotel service. Please any good diet plans anyone has had success with. Exercise is almost out of the question with my travel schedule. Any successful dieters out there who have lsot 25 in 2 months let me know. NO crash diet ideas please...really not a healthy way to go. Thanks for any advice.

Great headline, horrible article. The suggestions aren't "bad" they just not as simple as she makes it sound. My clients can eat 6000-9000 a day very easily because they understand the idea of 'thermic' meals and how it works in the whole synergistic approach of exercise. Why doesn't she mention protein? Geez, let's continue the cycle telling people to eating better by only talking about veggies whole grains. Also, who really cares about weight? Yeah, I don't remember looking at an attractive woman walking down the street and telling myself, "Wow, she looks like she is 122 pounds." However, I do remember seeing skinny fat women walking down the street and I think about how gross it looks. What you are made of is what counts. My girlfriend weight 165 lbs, but she is very attractive with very little fat weight. She looks very womanly too, so don't think that. Why won't Yahoo and other big companies turn the health and fitness thing over to fitness professionals? They are the only people who are actually giving people the information people need to transform their bodies. I know why, but people will not believe me. It begins with a $$$ and ends with a $$$. They want people to fail so they can continue selling you things and products you don't need! I will stop ranting and offer people my free get your tummy flat report if you ask for it at memphistrainer12@yahoo.com. Visit my website at www.dextertenisonfitness.com for more information about what I do for people.
