Breastfeeding is more than just nutrition! Yes the nutrition is important. But more than this, just the skin to skin contact and the bonding between mother and child that takes place with a nursing pair are very important to a baby's health. Add to this the proper jaw formation, eye development, and health benefits for mom, and the challenges are well worth it!

I am pregnant with my first child and plan to breastfeed. I know that it presesnts it's own set of challenges, but I think it will be well worth it. I want to ensure that my baby gets the best start in life. And I am really looking forward to bonding on that special level with my new little one.

My mom always blamed my brother's mental problems, and heroin addiction on the fact that she didn't breastfeed him. My sister and I are just the opposite...we were breastfed. My 3 sons were all breastfed...all for different lengths of time. The longer you breastfeed, the more bonding. My sons are all wonderful, though!

formula doesn't even come close to breastfed. No one can say that "formulas have been carefully designed to mimic the composition of breast milk". They don't even compare. Breastmilk adapts itself to give the specific nutrients as your child need it. So if your child is starting to get sick, your breastmilk will change to have the antibodies needed to keep your child healthly. Everyone should work very hard to BF for as long as possible. Almost all problems can be fixed. That is why most other countries, like Japan and Norway, have breastfeeding percentages as high as 99% for the first year! We have a long way to come!
