I am amazed @ the healthcare persons that do not understand the connection of latex allergies and food allergies...I tried to explain this today to the nutritional dietician..and she was unaware...

I have had a sensitivity to Latex and now it has turned to an acute allergy...I worked for years wearing latex gloves...and then noticed a rash after contact with a condom...and then, rashes from bandaids...then, the balloons in house bothered my asthma and now years later I cannot blow them up without having allergic reactions...so, it is a developing allergy that is seemingly worsening...so, now I notice blotches on my tongue after eating certain foods now like Kiwi, tomatoes, bananas...so, maybe there is a correlation to the allergy I already have...but, I do notice now that the more I try to consume the above mentioned foods..that I have more trouble breathing and my tongue is more blotchy...I need to take benadryl after..so, now I am avoiding the foods..and yes...I keep benadryl and the epi pens near by...for anaphylatic reactions...like I get from bee stings...

I am not allergic to latex but recently I am now allergic to bananas. I recently cooked a banana pudding and ate one of the bananas I woke up in the middle of the night and I felt like I was having a heart attack. Then several days later after eating another banana I experienced the same symptoms and was then able to put my finger on what was causing me to have this reaction. The banana flavor that bananas give to the pudding did not cause any reaction. I can also eat kiwi and tomatoes and not allergic to latex. My sister is however allergic to latex.

Yes, you can have chemical allergies and be allergic foods related to those chemicals as well. For example, myroxylon pereirae reacts to vanilla. My suggestion is if you have been diagnosed with any allergies of any kind do your homework! I was diagnosed with latex years before I found out why I reacted so violently to bananas but bananas never showed up as a food allergy during testing - scary!
