there is a lot of literature out there showing that there is a definite link between eating red meats, even lean red meats, once a week and getting colon cancer. avoid it if you've been diagnosed with a predisposition to it or have it. it's loaded with nitrates and leads to other types of cancers. besides that, the gov't does a very lame checking for madcow. every time you eat beef, it's a game of russian roulette as to whether or not you're eating a diseased piece of beef. and for that reason, i'd avoid all dairy (from the cow)too. there are healthier ways to get your calcium.

one more thing, consumption of chicken, turkey, fish, and seafoods, have been known to prevent this disease. you can take fish oil supplements too if you don't like to eat fish or seafood and it will still benefit you. it's known to reduce polyps and reverse this disease.
