Cheryl, did you take my lonestart workbook? kidding.it's all so right on from the program. i used to eat when i was depressed or stressed to make me feel better. then i'd eat to celebrate. and most of this wasn't even b/c i was hungry. then i'd eat when i was hungry. now that i've broken those cycles and lost weight and kept it off i'm eating for nutrition. and it feels great! great column btw.

my four kids are very fit and lean, not one is overweight, and they have no clue i'm "watching". i however am 100lbs overweight. i dont struggle with my weight though...does that make sense. i've never been on a diet, obviously. but they dont hear me complain that i'm fat, that i dont fit in something or that i wish i looked like someone else. and when the kids have a stressful day or want to celebrate we buy movies from our cable company....you know the pay per view. when we are hungry we eat. (my problem is over eating with the kids left overs). but i garden alot, and have a nice shaded back yard. so i'll sit in my adirondack chair and read while they run amuk.they are very active kids. and sometimes i'll challenge them to race each other. so when the kids are complaining that they're bored, we go outside and play with the dogs. though i'm a blatant bad example of good health. i am still not setting a good example by being overweight. so for the first time i'm gonna "do" something. i'm not sure what. i've been a size 22 for 11years. i'm not sure how to get on a weight loss program when i dont have a deep desire to...

lissette, you have made the first step. If you are ready to become healthy, then you have a desire to "diet". Find a program that you think will work for you; something that you can live with forever, because once you lose the weight, you don't want to put it back. I did the same program that eyeam (post 1)did. It teaches you that modest but meaningful changes can make a huge difference in your life. Look into it, study the choices out there and commit to something. You will be glad you did, I sure am! Good luck!

I have personally lost about 30 pounds through Yoga and would recommend it as a long term solution . Because once you use yoga your body becomes so efficient in burning fat that it won't collect easily ever again . You can change from a basically fat person to a basically thin person with yoga . http://www.weightloss.axplained.com

I enjoy "bad" food a lot more than "maybe" getting sick from it in the future .I am 20 pounds overweight.I like bread, pizza, steak, corned beef... Any suggestions from anyone on how to change that?

sandyfries26, like i said in an earlier post, i've been doing the lonestart program, but everyone has to find what works best for them. i came across a website, and i don't know the exact address, but it has lots of programs on it and you can get the basics of what they are. i suggest going to google (sorry yahoo, but i find it a lot easier to find addresses there) and type in "weight loss-index" and then click the "i feel lucky" button." hope this helps and that you find what you're looking for.

I don't want to be a huge promoter, but I HIGHLY recommend sparkpeople.com for weight loss...I've lost 40 lbs in 4 months and it's just like e-diets and suck, BUT FREE!

I am a diabetic (10 years now) on oral meds and had to make life eating changes. I've found that diets don't work for me but the diabetic meal planning does. If I measure just like the meal plan does the weight comes off easily and effortlessly and this is without much exercise. Not that I'm not promoting healthy eating AND exercise but I'm not much on the latter. 45 pounds is what I lost after being on this healthier way of eating for about the first year now I just maintain it. I don't deny myself my cravings for anything just in MODERATION and only on special occasions. Good luck to you all on your choices and lifestyle/eating changes
