Do try and keep the sodium intake as low as possible. Read the labels, for example, a glass of milk and two pieces of dry toast has a whopping 400 mg., sodium. That is 20% of the daily allowance before you take another bite. I do just fine on 1200 mg., per day. whenI go over that amount, my feet and ankles swell. Just get a small note book and do a weeks record....I guarantee a big surprise and a possible change.

to Audra...Yes u have made tha right choice. The first step you have made,it is the other steps that will b a test for u. Look at it as a journey that u will travel. Your next steps relate to changing your habbits of eating,n that will b tough. Prepair to fight yourself mentaly and physicaly because u desire change. Your body will adapt just dont give up or stop when it hurts, keep on pushin. The key is to start out very light then increase with your plan, remember to stay focused and revisit your own instruction for your desired change when moments close in to discourage you... If you believe then nothing will sidetrack you... Peace

Dear lulubellny55, I'm so sorry for your condition, and I know how you feel. All I can advise you is to try to think postive, eat less and better meals, and try to walk as much as you can. Little by little, if you do these things, you will feel better. I don't have insurance either, but instead of taking lipitor, I east all lowfat and zero cholest. foods; and I've never taken hormones. I'm 59 and look much younger -- I think it's my good spirit that keeps me going. Good luck. rgrace

this is for audra and the herbal diet?I'm not sure what the herbal diet cosists of but be careful! Some herbs can be dangerous if you don't know what you're taking or how much to take.weight resistance exercises are proven methods to help lower both blood pressure and cholesterol.Throw in 15 to 20 minutes of aerobics every other day and you will lose the weight. Toned muscles burn two to three times the calories during rest. There is no magic bullet that people are searching for to lose the lbs or regain your health. Unfortunately it take discipline and some work to achieve your goals.Don't fall into the scam of the MAGIC PILL.Make a commitment and stay with it.GOOD LUCK!!!

lulubellny, take time to stop in a health food store. there you can speak to someone who is well educated in the area of proper nutrition, herbal supplements, etc. Nutrition is something our doctors fail to talk to us about, many of them just push pills. Garlic and red yeast rice is excellant for cholecterol levels. I know several doctors who have found this to work especially for people who do not have insurance. please remember almost all our ealy medications where derived from herbs. now they are synthetic. Of couse that does not take place of doctors if you are in need of medical attention. Many of our ills can be eliminated or reduced with proper rest and nutrition and of course exercise, even if it is only a walk one block at a time. Take care of yourself you can do it. katmando3666@yahoo.com

do you have gastric reflux???? for those who do, I have heard that eating yogurt 3 times a day for 6 months, you will not take another pill again. I'm on Nexium and I know someone who was told to do this by a nurse so she tried it and did the yogurt thing for six months ,that was over a year ago and she has not even taken a rolaid or tums since. although she does have yogurt once a day.
