I love black eye peas. But I was in the grocery store the other day, ready to buy a few cans to the tune of $1.09 a can and started to read the labels. They are full of just about everything but black eye peas. Some brands even have high fructose corn syrup (why?). So I went around the corner and picked up a 2 pound bag of uncooked peas, went home and cooked it with a minced onion, chopped fresh tomato, and a few chopped hot peppers. There was no added sodium, no added HFCS, no extra sugars, or preservatives. What I had was a mess of black eyed peas! I put some in a pot for eating, and put three, four portion baggies in the freezer. The moral of the story is as customizing says, cook more than you need of whatever it is, freeze the extra, and you have very simple HEALTHY meals already on hand.

I am old and healthy....it is more than "eating"---it is thinking for yourself, taking full responsibility for your own unique body (meaning you do not listen to all the "health Hype" sponsered by the Money making Corporations), it is knowing you do not have to have alot of money to be healthy, it is keeping your body moving and "YOUR MIND AT PEACE". It is experimenting with what makes you feel the best and then sticking with it until it is no longer the best then experimenting some more. Life is change. If I die tomorrow.......I was "quality to the end"--what could be better than that? I also walk 20 miles each week......but I live near a beach with white sand beaches and turquoise water---it's a given! Keep trying.....if you are trying to be healthy you are making progress.....if you aren't even concerned and you are not healthy, we still need you as an example of what we do not want to be.....health and happiness!

I work for a fast food restaurant and im sick of reading about how people are trying to say its the companies who sell the food that makes people sick or overweight. no one holds a gun ti their heads to make them eat this stuff. they are the ones who choose to eat it. the industry has stepped up its practices to offer healthier choices to the consumer. if people want healthier choices then great but you have to do your homework sometimes to figure out what they want out of their fast food dining and other dining establishments as well. but on another note it is okay to splurge on something thats not on their everyday regimine. if at all possible when the average consumer goes into a fast food establishment or the like, ask for nutritional info or guidance on how to find out. i do it once in a while myself just to give my customers a hand at those choices. a little bit of knowledge can go a long way. i also do it just get a heads up on food allergies and sensitivities to certain ingredients as i have a child with autism and may have gluten sensitivities. thank you for your time.

Fast food is still junk food. The problem is the american consumer's diet, regardless of the toppings and sides. Fast food joints are the places americans go to buy and eat their garbage. Stay away from those places and live longer.

Fast food is just what it means! Not to be eaten regularly but occassionally when in a hurry to grab a quick bite. I truely feel that most all foods contain some nutrient, some lots more than other and some just to enjoy on a whim. But even then not meant to biggey size and not often!

These are good tips, but one problem. Diet sodas have a chemical in them called Aspertame and even though it burns colories, it can give you cancer. I think I am going to follow these tips but instead of having a soda, you and I both should go with water or a low-fat juice of some kind.

As of this morning's scale, I've lost a total 48 pounds since October 10, 2005. I have not given up on fast food at all, eating them in moderation, because deprivation leads to failure. My favorites? Taco Bell's tostada, burritos, enchiritos and "fresco style" items, small McDonald's hamburgers, Chick-fil-A sandwiches and/or nuggets (sometimes both!). The moral of the story? People can eat fast food once in a while (even a couple times a week!), if they combine light exercise with portion control. Sometimes people don't need to watch their weight but instead need to watch their overall health. It's a matter of eating well-rounded meals. I'm not trying to sound hoity-toity here. I'm just sharing what has worked for me on my personal weight loss journey. :-)

Subway does not lie about its low-fat sandwiches. It is all true what they say. Hey, rmrm4405, wtf? If life leads to death, might as well try to live a long time by eating healthy so that you can enjoy it? Ever think of that? I read on the internet that certain foods can do certain things to your body. For example, berries help you remember. Some foods even help you live longer. So rmrm4405, if you want to criticize life, go do it somewhere else where there is no one who cares about what they put into their bodies!

Although I am also pleased at the new choices at fast food places, I now have a new fast food place--my local grocery store. They have a salad bar, olive bar, roasted chicken, and even some pre-maid meals that can go right into the microwave. Why spend six or seven doallars at the burger joint when I can get an acutal meal for nearly the same?

My idea of eating fast food is ordering grilled chicken sandwich with lettuce and tomatoe without any sauce because the chicken has enough flavor for me to enjoy my food. I would order an ice tea.The sandwich alone fills me up and that is more than enough portion for a 45 year old, 5'3", 110 lbs and a mother of four older teens. The problem in the United States is the portions they serve in restaurants. Why can't we do it like Europian countries, you don't find a lot of overweight people there because they don't serve a lot. When I was in Spain a few years ago I watched people in restaurants and whereever, the interesting thing is that most overweight people you meet are either Americans or Canadians and not the Europians. If only every restaurant in our great country will serve enough portion on the menu and charge a $5.00 healthy meal, small amount of meat and vegetables. Restaurants that serve Buffets are the worst placesto go. It's okay if we can limit what we eat. We know that a lot of wasted food in this country, and also a lot of starving people out there. Of course, exercise always comes with eating right. For me walking is the cheapest way of staying fit, it's free!!!!

Fast food isn't mean to supplant regular, healthy eating. People make choices. Eating at a fast food restaurant isn't supposed to be three times a day, seven days a week. Having one high fat meal every few days isn't going to kill you. And even if you do eat there more often, there are healthier choices that you can CHOOSE from. No, the healthiest thing is to bring your own lunch that you've prepared from home with the ingredients you know all about. But when that isn't possible, then you are given the options to make intelligent CHOICES to eat out. The fast food restaurants are not able to cater to everyone's eating styles. We have to make decisions for ourselves and blaming them for our fatness is just weak and wrong.

The best alternative for fast food would be something other than fast food. Fast food is bad for you regardless of what you're consuming.
