well it depends on how much weight u r trying to lose. if u just want to lose a couple of pounds just go for a little jug in the morning.if u want to lose more than 10 lbs. then try changing your diet ...u could also try the atkins diet(be aware there will be mood swings because of a rapid decrease in the amount of carb intake./so try not to plumet from the amoumt of carbs just decrease slowly...)

I am an underweight and I am thin also. Perhaps due to unbalanced diet due to my hectic work schedule. Please let me know how can I gain weight. Also suggest me a suitable daily diet plan,so that I can keep my self healthy and fit. Thanks.

You people should try The Plateau proof diet by Dr. Ekema. I have been on the plateau-proof diet for a month and I've lost 20 pounds already. adebavictor mentioned this diet above... i strongly recommand this diet.

I feel fortunate. I can consume all those things. But, I avoid fried fatty foods almost all of the time, and I drink decaf coffee, iced tea at times. I am 56 and now weigh only about 15 lbs more than when I was in high school. 165 lbs, 5'8". I do eat eggs every day, watch the carbs carefully (so I can eat ice cream), drink tomato juice every day, blueberries. A lot of sardines and herring. I drink beer, usually one a day, but they make great tasting low carb beer, so its even less than wine.

Burning problem: First of all,let me tell all readers that I am not a Doctor. However, when I saw this week's title as "GERD: Your burning questions answered", I thought I must write a few lines about my own experience, to the benefit of all readers of this column who have acidity problem. Apart from starch, potato has good amount of protein of high biological value. It also contains substantial amount of alkaline salts and is also rich in vitamins A&B.One of the best alkalizing drinks is Potato water. It is therefore very helpful in maintaining the alkali reserve of the body and is a natural antidote for excess of acid or acidosis. It is said that it prevents the fermentation process in the intestine and it also helps the growth of friendly bacteria in the digestive tract. Whenever a dish is prepared from potato, let not that water in which the potato has been cooked be thrown away, but drink that potato water. One who has problem with acidity can try this suggestion. Wash the potato well to remove dirt, mud, etc sticking to it . Cut into two pieces. Do not remove the skin and cook/steam it with water.Take out the water and drink it. Make it a regular practice. Your stomach problem should disappear.Potato water is harmless and so one need not hesititate to drink it . Give it a fair trial and let all of us know about your experience. The reason for not removing the skin is because ,the most nutritive part of the potato lies just below the skin and this particular layer is very rich in protein and mineral salts.Wish you all the best. My wife and I were attending a banquet hosted by Japanese government officials. She had a bout with heartburn and we asked to be excused. Our host summoned the waiter and asked that he bring a ground radish on a small plate. When it arrived our host suggested that she partake of the ground radish. She did and her heartburn disappeared immediately. Since then this has worked most of the time. A dozen radishes cost only a dollar...a tiny fraction of the cost of a dozen proton pump inhibitors. Vinegar often works, too as does abstaining from feasting on rich foods after 6:30 pm.
