So what worse, bulema and anexoria in thin people, or the many more million people who are immensely obese? Used to be you had to go to a buffet restaurant to see immense people, now you see them everywhere. What's worse in long term health?

Being obese and having an eating disorder are equally harmful to you're long term health. While being overweight elevates your risks for a number diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, having an eating disorder puts a big strain on your body, while it struggles to keep you from starving. The main cause of death for anorexics is cardiac failure, the heart just gives out beacause its to weak to keep you alive. Treatment is very different for each one. Theres plenty of good websites out there if you wanna know more, make sure they end in .gov or .edu tho, .coms are not as reliable.. i cant think of any off the top of my head tho, but i hope that gives you a better idea.

There is also a eating disorder that is seldom addressed. I have had it also affect many portions of my life and it has been an on going struggle to make peace with my body. It is compulsive over eating. No it's not just fat people sitting around eating too many chips and candy bars. It's feeling all the same issues of bulimia and anorexics, only instead we wear our disease for the world to see. I binge eat till I am sick, it doesn't matter what goes in my mouth at the time. What matters is stuffing down whatever feelings, stresses, life issues that triggers the binge. The only place I have found to help with this is Overeaters Anonyomous. No we may not purge, starve, although I have done all those as well as laxatives, but we need far more then just another diet to recover.

i think that the problem is that us as americans dont have alot of time to get to exercise, eat healthy and educate ourselves about a healthy lifestyle. the average person works 5 days a week, has child(ren)and too much work at home to do. (unless you are a total lazy arse) i am a very busy woman so i went to a weight loss clinic to get help. i was given a strict diet and a mild appetite supressant. i have lost over 16 pounds in almost 2 months. i try to get in 30 minutes to a hour of walking 3 to 4 times a week, but if i can't (for being too busy) i pump up the music on the weekends when i clean and i dance and move around. been eating less than 20 grams of fat a day (thats without skipping meals) and less than 1000 calories a day, i limit my carbs and i dont use salt (MRS DASH!!)USE THE GEORGE FOREMAN GRILL GUYS!! IT CUTS COOKING TIME IN HALF DONT EAT RED MEAT (OR LESS THAN 2 TIMES A MONTH)as my dietician told me to EAT ONLY WHAT FLIES AND SWIMS!!!!! FISH, TURKEY, CHICKEN, SHRIMP WHATEVER!!!!! DONT EAT FRIED FOODS - FRIED FOODS ARE BAD!!!!! GET SOME FOOD SENSE GUYS. READ LABELS-DONT OVERDO IT AND DRINK LOTS OF WATER. WTF!! AND U WILL SEE A DIFFRENCE IN YOUR HEALTH AND ENERGY LEVELS- DONT SKIP MEALS- EAT FRUITS AND VEGETABLES VEGETABLES ARE GOOD - HEY EAT BROWN RICE AND MIX THEM WITH SOME BEANS - MMM SO GOOD SHRIMP, SQUASH, SALMON FILETS WITH LEMON JUICE SPRINKLED ON THEM EAT GOOD AND EAT HEALTHY. MUAH BYE BYE. LOOK GOOD LIKE ME HAHA

Whether it's food we are refusing and ignoring important health issues as anorexics to starve our mentality. Or mass quantities of food we are putting in our mouths to cause outrageous obesity. Or puffing on cigarettes, cigars, pipes or joints to get smoked or buzzed. Or consuming high levels of alcohol to drown our reasoning skills. Or biting our nails due to withdrawn feelings and fear of reaching out to other or others reaching out to us; many of us develope some type of substance abuse, co-dependancy and oral fixation at a very early age, out of self defense and control. Whether because we were left too alone in life, with little attention & affection or decent discipline from care-givers, that void perhaps fills us now with anger & frustration and a constant need to keep our hands busy; even in a destructive nature. We overcome our fear of loneliness or being unloved with an out-of-control compulsiveness to control and be helpless all at the same time...much like a child's behaviour at a young age. Some steadily achieve this through defense mechanisms and behaviour disorders such as temper tantrums, manic depressive or a passive aggressive attitude. Others habituate daily with oral fixations of either over or under-eating, over-drinking, smoking, toking or gnawing on their nails, etc. Perhaps our hands weren't held enough at a young age. Maybe our hands aren't held enough now with a strength of love to stop our abuse towards our vulnerbility & shame as humans and the deep punishment we feel towards our unloved or inadequate bodies. Many of us currently feel we have no safety net to fall into with trust and dignity and let go of our problems in a healthy way. We all need proper training to care for ourselves and to reach out to others in need of help, support and safe love. There should be more affordable or free behavioural education clinics and strong support groups, for all-walks-of-life, than fast food outlets and drinking bars. Instead of trying to be noticed & get fixed-up with a fast fix at a night club or shopping mall, we all need to learn to give more attention to helping and healing all person's insecurities and develope our true need for healthy love, trusting relationships, friendships, a steady income and a safe home base. Not killing each other and our pain with abuse in a silent, desperate attempt for some small amount of attention and the hope for the potential of unconditional love.

The 7 Simple Signs of Low Nutritional Status Cavities If you had a hole in your leg, you’d be alarmed. A hole in your tooth should sound the same alarm bells. No body part is designed to develop holes and when the hardest structure in your body (tooth enamel) turns into a soft, smelly, decayed mass, it’s obvious that something is very wrong. Body systems are not functioning as they should or you wouldn’t have this – or any – of the 7 signs. Gum Disease Gum disease is caused by 2 factors: not keeping your teeth clean and low nutritional status. The first causes the problem and the second worsens it. Acidic Saliva Acid states promote disease. Saliva should be neutral or slightly alkaline. Canker Sores (Cold Sores, Fever Blisters) These sores are blatant signs that your body is at a low nutritional level. Nutritionally strong people never get such sores. Visual Changes in the Tongue Cracks, colored coatings, teeth marks, blotches, blue-black s pots and other findings are all signs outside the parameters of health and indications that body systems are not functioning as they should. Something is wrong. A tongue should not look like that. Visual Changes in the Fingernails Streaks, no lunulae (half moons), lackluster, discolorations, white spots, and improper shape are all signs that body systems are not functioning as they should and some deeper problem is happening. A healthy body forms healthy nails. Digestive Problems Gas, diarrhea, indigestion, constipation, the need to take antacids and other signs are all indications that your digestive system is malfunctioning and, obviously, impeding - and substituting for - natural and beneficial processes. YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY OF THE 7 SIGNS OF LOW NUTRITIONAL STATUS GENERAL FOOD-INTAKE PRINCIPLES 1. It would be beneficial to limit the intake of products that contain white flour. 2. It would be beneficial to limit the intake of products that contain sugar as an added ingredient. 3. It would be beneficial to limit products that contain artificial sweeteners, artificial preservatives, artificial colorings or artificial flavorings. 4. Drink plenty of fluids. Bottled water (or any water without chlorine or fluoride) is preferred over tap water. Distilled is best. 5. Consume a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables (certified organic is preferred). 6. It would be beneficial to limit alcoholic beverages. Alcohol yields psychological changes, not corporeal health benefits. 7. Consume more fish and seafood products. 8. Saturated fat should be avoided. 9. Do not eat carbohydrates with protein/fat meals. Refined carbohydrates are very unhealthy – anywhere and at all times. When combined with fats/proteins, they throw the body into mechanisms that cause fat deposits everywhere (hips, thighs, midsection, arteries, heart, etc.) The same is true when whole grains (complex carbohydrates) are combined with fat/protein foods. Complex carbohydrates are, however, OK without fat and protein. Nutrition at the doctor-level is vastly different from the dietitian or nutritionist. Because of that difference, our results are typically outstanding. Our therapy is based on results verified by 14 of the most prestigious research institutions in the world; including UCLA, Houston Medical Center, Vanderbilt University, NIH, Kings College in London, Wake Forest University, University of Sydney in Australia, etc. Our evaluation procedure is the epitome of early detection. We can detect problems in the biological systems before they appear in blood or urine analyses and before they are detected by routine medical examination. We use no lab tests. Our protocol is, paradoxically, both low tech and highly scientific. Our concepts are based on standard medical dogma and peer-reviewed scientific literature. We focus on workforces in the individual, corporate structure, athletic teams (professional to high school level) and Broadway-level theatri

The most disturbing fact is this: it is ok to give unconditional support and empathy to people with eating disorders that make them skinny, and respond with shame, isolation and disgust to people whose eating disorders make them fat. As a compulsive overeater, I would truly appreciate the same type of compassion that anorexics and bulemics get. Instead, we are shunned and made to feel like we are alone, which makes us eat more because we feel like food is the only friend we have left. For anorexics and bulemics, there are interventions. For obese and morbidly obese people, there is criticism, hatred, and televisions shows like "The Biggest Loser" that reinforce such disgust towards us. I am sure someone will respond to this comment by being insulting and demeaning, and that is ok because it just proves my point.

How does the TV show "The Biggest Loser" reinforce any negativity towards overweight people? I watch that show every week and think how awesome it is that these people are losing so much weight. It makes me think that if they can lose 100 pounds, I can lose 45. I think that show is inspiring. I do understand what you mean by the criticism, though. Some people are just out right mean. I say forget about what anybody says, all that matters is that you are happy with yourself. And if you're not, then you know the changes you need to make in your life to make you happy. There are also support groups out there for overeaters.

What I meant by "The Biggest Loser" reinforcing the negativity is the approach they use. There seems to be a more aggressive approach than what I've seen on shows about anorexia. For example, celebrities like Tom Cruise taped a special message for that one woman but no celebrity or anyone else has been as gracious and supportive to obese or overweight people. It's ironic that most commercials during prime time are food-related, but at least one of the sitcoms per night makes fun of or talks negatively about "body fat" or body parts not being perfect in the script.

i recently got over an eating disorder that left my teeth decayed, and my hair thinned. just because i wanted to look good. But, i also parked my car in the front of the parking lot of the grocery store, even if it meant driving around every lane 10 times until i found a close spot. i have changed not only my mental attitude, but also my daily routines as well. instead of filling my coffee with sugar in the mornings, i carry splenda around in my purse. i clean the house instead of watch tv 2 hours a day. i volunteer evey sunday, go to continuing education classes, and take my time to walk around in the shopping mall even when i dont get anything. just to burn some extra energy, i walk from the back of the parking lot. my husband has decided to make the change with me, and he is more vital than ever.

eating disorders are triggered by emotions of depression, guilt, jealousy, pain or even just simply being embarrassed. people do not realise just how serious this desease is and how it affects many people, and they just think taht you can take a pilla nad it will all go away, but they are dead wrong. as i mentioned earlier it is triggered by emotions, something that is deep within you and only reaching deep within yourself and having support to do so can help you and many others out there. i speak because i am in a situation where i find myself two sizes larger than i was and that is not good for my health as it might cause complications wiht my condition, but luckily i had my mother to make me realise that i need to change my eating habbits and find an amicable dolutiion that will help me deal with this and not let it go too far. i have admitted it to myself and i have to say that i am making progress, even though there are times i feel like everything is caving i rather call someone that go to the cafeteria and get a burger and chips and ice cream and chocolate. in light of my saying this i am not asying that one should deprive one's self of the things that you eat but you must watch how much of the food you eat little bits of chocolate snacks once in a while will not make you fat because it is a known fact chocolate is healthy for you if you eat it right, and it is true for all the foods that you eat you must always be aware of what you eat and when you eat it do not eat when you are about to sleep and this is true

it is so easy to get hooked up into anorexia and bulimia. there is so much pressure and emphisis on being thin today. in some cases the pressure is so imense that you starve youself and feel sick at the tought of you eating and putting on wieght, in order to look skinny. its easy to see why people are being bulimic. you eat all the junk food you want, you vomit, then you feel so guilty you dont want to eat any more food but if you do eat more food, you vomit again. its a vicious circle. i think that bulimia/anorexia will only be cured once people start to focus on the inside rather than the outside. there are so many ways to become in touch with our inner-selfs with yoga and thai-chi coming back into fashion. Love yourself, love life!
