Help! I'm having severe night sweats due to menopause, (mental pause too). Can you help. I'm on HRT. And No, I'm not going off of it regardless of all the scare tactics out there and "new research studies." I say phooey. Why? Because all the women in their studies were at risk for heart attack and stroke anyway. They were all at least more than 10 pounds overweight so they are at risk just by that alone.

Hi I can't help you with night sweats but you are a fool to ignore the studies. Your risk of cancer is 100% increased when you are on HRT. Some women MUST be but not all. You really should speak with your doctor. Re: night sweats, I'd recommend an accupuncturist but no matter what, don't be smug about cancer risks. It's of little use. True, no one gets out of this life alive but you don't have to court death. I'm 55 and I am surviving hot flashes and more WITHOUT HRT... perhaps you could also?

Iam 56 and menopausal. Night sweats are the worst. Try a/c in your room at night or leave the windows open.Drink soy milk! Walk or swim if possible. Stay away from sugar and caffeine. Green tea works well. BOO HISS on HRT.

Diximom101-If you're 5'3" and 129, you are quite alright I feel. If you still feel you're fat, then I suggest you see your therapist because your stats. dont say you're fat. FOR ALL WOMEN WHO FEEL FAT OR ARE A BIT OVERWEIGHT- PLEASE REMEMBER THAT FAT STORES ESTROEGEN AND THAT MAKES YOU LOOK YOUNGER.

I am 48 years old. I had my total hysterectomy when I was 45. Since then, I have taken premarin. In other words, I had an instant menopause. I have not had any harsh memoposal experience at all. (Doctor said if I don't take premarin, I would have memopausal symptoms.) I orginally came from Japan. I don't remember any of Japanese ladies around me had hot flash or night sweat including my mother, grandma, aunts, etc. I don't like taste of soy milk. But I can introduce you one of soy products, that is "Inarizushi (fried soy bean card)" that you can buy at most oriental food stores. They are in a can, cost about $4 per can. Probably 12 - 16 bean cards per can. (It depends of makers.) They are already seasoned (if canned product). Through my experience, most American people like this. Should be eaten rice inside of the bean cards, but you can also eat them without rice. Other soy products that often Japanese eat are: soy sauce (watch for sodium amount), "Miso (This also needs to watch for sodium amount. "Miso" is soy bean paste. Japanese make 'Miso Soup' with this. But you can use this for other cooking. I stir-fry meat and vegitables and add miso, sugar, and/or ginger and stir them together. I don't know how much soy would help, but I surely increased my soy-bean products intake for my diet after my life changed. Oh, also Japanese ladies drink plenty of green tea. I wonder if diet contributes for some of the difference in symptoms.

I am 48 years old and have been going through menopause four years this April. I started waking up at 4am with night sweats. I KNEW, what was happening! I went on Hormone Replacemnet Therapy (HRT)with my Doctors advice. I could not tolerate the hormones and she changed them twice. I became extremly Moody to put it nicely. I went in for a follow up and asked her why she didn't recommend "a more natural" way to get through menopause??? Funny to find out what I told my doctor I had researched, SHE WAS DOING! I recommend taking Remifemin, found at Walmart or CVS. This will help with the Hot Flashes, Night Sweats and Mood Swings. Take it as directed. I did find it would stop working after around 2 months, I would just stop taking it for a week or two then start up again. IF this doesn't work, take Black Cohosh pills. Also found at Walmart (best prices). I also am luck enough to have a Natural Grocer in my neighborhood inwhich I purchase Soy Nuts in bulk. I buy about 4 to 5 pounds per week, the cost is $1.99 per pound. I snack on them on the way to work, at work, always in the car and at night. I also drink chocolate Soy milk and I love it. I have learned to "control" my Hot Flashes and a lot of the symptoms associated with Menopause. I also try and laugh, yes laugh about it, instead of crying about it. I may be with a few friends in public, start the hot flashes and seriously, you could see the sweat on my forehead and arms, so I would fan myself and people would ask what was wrong and I would laugh and say oh Here we go...HOT FLASH!! stand back, I may explode, or just say something so stupid people (including myself) would laugh. This summer was TERRIBLE!! however, although, I have chosen the Herbal/Natural route, I am now on a small dose of an antidepressant. My night sweats are gone if yours is not you can always take 2 little pink Benadryl pills to help you sleep. Three doctors told me, it would not hurt me because they were not addicting. Actually they knocked me out, I finally got a full nights sleep after waking 4 to 5 times a night w/ the sweats and that gets old real quick. So, I eat no more than 1/2 cup of soy nuts (roasted) not honey roasted and you have to find the right amount for you. I was eating about 1 1/2 cups a day, but it is also fiber...so be careful. (If you don't want to stay in the bathroom all day) my GYN said she didn't know how much to eat. Also, try Tofuu in your scrambled eggs. I know for a fact our diet has to change! Our bodies are changing. And my skin and hair are softer and my face does not look like it's aging. (Hey, I know I'm only 48, but this stuff started when I was 44 and it can really take it's toll on us if we let it. For the women who want to take the HRT way, please let me advise of you something. My doctor found a lump on my right breast while I was taking the hormones and estrogen. I was so scared, I contacted an Insurance Company to purchase additional insurance BEFORE I was possibly diagnosed with breast cancer. Thanking God, it was not! This is what it took for ME to get off the HRT and go the more natural route and a big attitude change. I am almost over this stage in my life and I am feeling great FINALLY :)

NIGHT SWEATS ARE NOT ESTROGEN RELATED THEY ARE PROGESTERONE RELATED. GET SOME PROGESTERONE CREME FROM THE HEALTH FOOD STORE. IF YOU CAN'T DIGEST SOY - AS I CAN'T- GET THE ISOFLAVONES IS PILL FORM.

I am 41, I currently use soy sauce two to three times a week in my dinner meals, I plan to start using soy milk and other soy products. I have begun to see some signs of perimenopause and I want to get a head start on preventative measures before my changge of life comes. I have been told because I have not given birth that I may have a difficult time during menopause (according to my mother...who may only be saying this because she wants grandchildren).

try raspberry tea. I also eat soy products as a source of protein. If you have a Trader Joe's near you they have soy delicious (ice cream product), dark chocolate covered soy nuts, soy bean butter (alternative to peanut butter) and many other products. These work as I have never had night sweats or hot flashes.

Ammah, I have just the thing. It's called a "sit up." Here's how you do it: lie on your back, bend your knees, and sit up. Also sucking in your gut will work your abdominals.
