Key word is moderation! Something in America we know nothing about when it comes to health and food choices. I remember when I was a kid and eating alot of carbs before a sporting event was encouraged and fat free everything was encouraged. Well, our waist sizes can tell you how much eating tons of carbs and tons of fat free foods did for us. More is not always better!

High levels of Mercury? Does the FDA know about this? In actuallity, Mercury levels vary widely based upon type of fish and where it's caught.

I love to eat at RA Sushi in Scottsdale, Arizona. They have the best sushi in the world.

Everyone needs to relax with this mercury scare. If you want to see the long term effects then take a look at Japanese people. They live long, active lives. And their rate of birth defects are on par with the rest of the world. The one thing i will point out here is in order to reap the max benefits of sushi, make sure you don't order rolls heavy in sauce, or containing anything deep fried. Stick to Nigiri sushi (traditional slice of fish on rice.)

There is a difference between American Sushi and traditional Sushi. Not all Sushi restaraunts make it the traditional way. Surprise Surprise American Sushi is much fatter because of the extras put into it so Americans will like it more. So, if you are eating Sushi be sure to check if they add anything to the Sushi like mayonaise or other ingredients that will negate the health benefits.

Hey anybody still believe eating egg yolks raises cholesterol? It is a myth and has never been proven. The healthiest part of an egg is the yolk. Sushi is the same way. In some fish yes they have high mercury levels but if eaten in moderation you have nothing to worry about. Considering most people don't even eat enough fish to begin with I think everybody can relax. Why is it people freak about mercury levels of fish and yet don't freak over smoking and eating fast foods?

Sushi means "With rice" Sashimi is sushi with raw fish. If the author didn't know that, I would take what she has to say with a grain of salt.

Sorry... I only eat the cooked sushi. Having a biology background and haven taken microbiology, parasitology, and pathology, I won't risk eating anything raw. In some cultures, people won't even eat fresh salads! They always cook their veggies, instead!

What a completely uninformative article with blanket statements such as all fish contains high mercury. Mercury varies greatly from species to species and like one other memeber mentioned the benefits are far superior. Overall the article was a waste of time!!

Thank you #27 for pointing that out I was reading to see if anyone would actually say Sushi is the rice.....that is why some are made without fish, and some places serve the fish cooked... i don't know how they cook it but it's not cooked long.
