I think that it's a shame that there are those out there who try to make people guilty for opting to have surgery. I have been obese for over 15 years, and have tried everything out there to lose weight. I would eat right, exercise every day, and then after 6 weeks have lost less than 10 pounds. Okay if I only needed to lose 20 pounds, but that wasn't the case. There certainly are risks with the surgery, but also risks every day of having other life-threatening problems. If you follow the diet and exercise, you should be successful. Good luck to everyone!!

Greetings All, This is a very touchy subject so let me just talk from my own personal knowledge. NONE of which I will claim comes from being a medical expert. So take it for what its worth. I am a Former Active Duty Marine ( in the Marines for 13 years) When i was younger i was a very thin weekling. till about my early 20's my body went nuts ....I got huge quick muscule wise and being a recon Marine boy did this help, but i began to notice that i was also gaining fat too I had to workout nearly 3-4 hours a day and eat 5-6 times a day to keep the fat off. Few jobs except the Marines will let you commit that kind of time. My lifestyle now is very healthy... eat small meals 5 times a day still work out 5 days a week and eat good foods and still I'm 105 lbs overwieght. I know that every thing from hormones to thyroid, and genitics lifestyle and any other medical conditions all play a factor in a persons weight. Ive had tons of injuries during my time in the Marines and even those have an affect on my wieght. There is no one answer to weight problems. I will say Discipline is a foremost factor... to eat right, workout..and not cheat. I have lots discipline and desire to control my wieght but factors of my borderline problem of low hormones, and unsteady thyroid, and now sleep apnea, just have now put my wieght control out of my reach. I believe that if you are true in all your efforts and have truely done more that you ever thought possiable through proper lifestyle and disipline and your body still refuses to cooperate then maybe surgery is for you. I am now begining to consider gastro surgery. if the surgery to control my sleep apnea fails to help me get my body get back on track and normalize my metabolizim by allowing my body to rest and recover like it should (without proper rest your metabolizim will be adversly affected)if it helps i will not do surgery ...but if it doest ...then i will consider some sort of gastro surgery. Not eating is probably one of the worse things to do. your metabolizim is like an engine. If you dont give it lots of good fuel for it to burn then... its going to try to save as much energy as possiable to get you through your day ...and it does this but storing it as fat. If you give it lots of fuel and you keep the motor running by being active its gonna think its a V8 engine and just burn the fuel like mad and then some ...so you can lose wieght. However ...this is not cut in stone..its true for most people but like me it just doesnt hold true. Arm yourself with knowledge... and hard work first... Go see your doctor there may be other things that are affecting your wieght control. Then if that doesnt work like many things in life you just might have to take other measures. Thanks for letting me put in my 1 3/4 cents worth. Sepmer Fi

I have tryed weight loss classes, to diet plains, my excercise tapes at home, and last but not least walking. My husband did'nt Like who I had became so he decided to leave. If I had the funds I would have the surgery, not to get my husband back but for the peace of mind that I know that it would bring to me.

I also have completed the info needed to send to ins company, I would be happy to hear from new surgery and old surgery patients. I would be interested to hear from those that had recent surgery and those that are getting ready to have surgery. This is very scary but living like this is scarier. My spelling is sometimes not so great, forgive me.

I need help.If anyone in the Chattanooga, TN area knows of a doctor that will perform the lapband surgery without insurance, on some type of pro-bono program or benevolence fund I need this information.I am 50 yrs. old, 5'6" and weigh 380.My back hurts so bad I can't stand longer than 2 or 3 minutes.I can't shop anymore without a scooter or wheelchair, I can't clean my own house, I sit down to cook, I have no life.I can't begin to explain what I go through in 4000 characters, if you are obese you already know.I just want my life back.I have kids and grandkids I don't want to leave behind yet.I want to live and walk and breathe without gasping for air from a trip to the bathroom.I want to be normal again.I can't exercise because of the extreme pain in my back and shortness of breath.I want to be able to buy clothes in the Plus size sections at least. They are too small for me.I could go on and on about all the inconveniences in my life but people like I will never lose this weight without help.I am just doomed.I don't mean to come on here with such a morbid comment but it is my prayer that someone will see this that can offer me some help, lead me to someone that can help me.I don't want to hear any comments for people like lilpris101 who apparently just wants to come on here and brag about herself and then there's evilthefeline. Ok, hey I never thought of that, that's just what I'll do, go out and climb some rocks and jog on the beach.Just as soon as I get out of my wheelchair I'll do that. For someone who was almost paralyzed, you have no compassion Miss Bragaboutit.I think maybe your brain didn't quite survive your accident.Bless your heart, you don't realize do you?You don't have a clue and I don't have patience or time for ignorant people like you.I am asking for help, even a word of encouragement would be better than nothing. Thanks and good luck to you all out there with the same conditions.
