I am a firm believer in eating to lose weight. Eating the right foods is the key. I eat all the time and still lose the weight. because my body it canlose the weight because it knows I will replenish it with FOOD! Alot of those pills don't do anything for you they are multi billion dollar gimmick, and that is all they are. If you look at the ads in mags or news paper, tv, they all say "RESULTS NOT TYPICAL."

I agree. I have been stupid enough to fall for those types of things in the past but have learned that only through changing how I think and live is the answer. I love to eat all of the worst kinds of foods possible but had to learn to love better things to eat. I am finding that building muscle is a helpful way to not only burn fat and calories but make my body feel better as well. It helps me to let go and let GOD lead the way as well. I leave it up to him.

A medically supervised program that uses meal replacements may be the right choice for some people. If you have over 50 pounds to lose, losing one pound a week is not motivating enough to keep you going long enough to lose it all. A good program with nutritional counseling will help you make a gradual transition from liquids to foods so that you do learn how to eat in a balanced, healthy way. But some people are prone to extremes (often people who have a serious weight problem are), and do better by starting with a somewhat radical program that forces them to change their habits.

Plenty of water definitely helps. I tried excercise, Atkins, and just trying to stay away from sugar, but nothing really worked for me. Last October I tried cleansing. I lost 21 pounds in just 4 weeks. I kept it all of during the holidays. My best friend lost 30 pounds in 5 weeks as well - and has kept it all off also. Even ABC news was surprised by the results. a site on the web with the news clip is: cleansingmentors. Best of luck in the battle of the bulge..

I'm only thirteen years old and yet have been struggling with my weight since I was seven. I've been everywhere from anorexia to compulsive overeating, but recently I've lost over 30 lbs- the HEALTHY way, through excercise, whole grains, fruit and veggies. You have to eat to lose weight- you just can't eat things like CHOCOLATE. So I'm thankful to the person who posted this news article.. people need to be aware of fad diets that hurt more than they help.

Fad diets often get a bum rap, but not all fad diets are created equal. I'm doing a very strict version of Atkins, and have lost 90 pounds since the beginning of October. The tip about limiting weight loss to one to two pounds a week is bogus. If I lost at that pace, I would lose my motivation very quickly. I'm averaging about 5 lbs per week, and I feel absolutely fantastic!

my doctor always stated that if you lose 1-2 pounds a week, every week till you reach your weight loss goal, then you are more likely to KEEP it OFF than someone who loses a great deal of weight in a short time... So pretty much, the saying goes like this: The slower (more gradual) you lose it, the LONGER you KEEP it OFF. Beauty does take patience and patience is a virtue.

I am learning to connect my emotions with why I am eating. Three meals per day is a given but "why" am I mindlessly eating left over holiday candy, chips, etc. When I stop to think about the why - and actually understand why - this helps me curb my cravings. For me, this is the "magic" appetite suppresant and it helps me see that I am in control of my emotional eating habits. It took some time and deep thought but for me, it has been very effective and, dare I say it, pretty easy. Thank you Bob Greene.
