Hey, I agree... be careful of "breaking" the eating plan for a splurge... if ya splurge... immediately get back on track of a healthy food variety (if you can afford it financially). If your friends, aquaintences, family, etc... do not stay on track, don't follow their little snack regimine or buffet dinners, etc. Take a stand for yourself... if you're strong they may take courage in seeing your strength and attempt a little harder in healthier eating habits. One thing that helps... every time you "fill up" at the gas station... skip that candy bar or bag of chips, pastery, etc.... find an alternative... fruit lower in natural sugar, get a protien snack such as jerky, veggie, cheese cubes, etc. So far I've lost approx 86 plus pounds.

I think the most important part of a group choice is , what are the principles of the group? How they think? This morning while driving, I was listening to National Public Radio (NPR) and a show called "Wait Wait don't tell me". A radio show which is supposed to be a test of your knowledge and or memory regarding current events. One of the personalities was commenting on the use of steroids and drugs in Major league Baseball.(Don't remember who, but I did hear one panelist was Paula Poundstone) The comparison was made that baseball players are artists in their field and why should they be viewed differently than other "artists", or people who are/were famous and used/use drugs. Names such as Sigmund Freud (and others) were brought up and it was insinuated that his ideas and thinking (accomplishments) were developed while under the influence, or as it was put by the commenter, something to the effect of his nose being packed. Now this was presented in a way by the commenter (and not contested by ANY other person on the program) so that it was defending the use of drugs and steroids while playing Major League baseball, that the players should be able to pursue their "art" while on drugs. I would venture a guess that this same "group" would demand the individual freedom to take drugs while encouraging others to do the same, but would demand as a "group", the right to other peoples property to finance their (and others) "recovery" from drugs in the form of welfare, state financed programs and universal health care paid for by the taking of other peoples freedoms, (time), in the form of higher taxes. Aside from the disgusting promotion of drug use on a NPR station, many Principles went unnoticed by ALL on the program, such as Major league Baseball players agree that they will not use drugs. If the Major League Players do take drugs when they agree not to, then they lack the principle of honesty. It may be very difficult to pursue a goal alone, but pursuing a goal with the "support" of unprincipled friends or groups will only make the goal that much harder to achieve. In some cases the "groups" we mindlessly associate with may be the direct source of our "problems" we seek to escape from. In my case I invited (tuned my radio to) a trusted group (NPR) into my car for enjoyment, and they sneak in the promotion of drug use. You can just imagine what some groups (political parties?) deliver into your head if you let them in without a filter made from Positive Principles. It's not the group, but the Principles of the group that make a difference in a life.

I used to overeat from emotions, like so many... trying to feel better with food. WEIGH DOWN WORKSHOP - www.weighdown.com - is how that got turned around! I lost 45 lbs. and have been at a normal weight now for at least 6 yrs., without a struggle to maintain this weight. I eat regular foods, too. I thank God for this affordable program! The number is 800-844-5208. It has worked for countless numbers of people, including Andy & Maggie Sorrells (you can Google their story). It is also featured on the cover of April, 2007 Good Housekeeping magazine. Check out Weigh Down. You'll be glad you did!

Hello and let me tell you today!A person's body can not lose weight till it is healthy again.I was 250 lbs.,5 months ago.I started by putting minerals back in my body. This made me lose my cravings for Coke(have been drinking it for 23 years),very little bread intake and only 1 sweet per week. The key is my body does not crave this anymore. If your body has balance-you will not want it.I had tried everything on the market until i researched why your body acts the way it does.I went to Google and researched products for about 60 hours. What i found! There is a company in San Deigo that will give you a bottle to try for free, just pay ship!Thats fair! $7.00 and i will feel better.Today i am 30 lbs lighter and have not had a headache, bodyache,my acid reflux is gone, and i have hope again to get in shape. This product is amazing because it has helped my mothers cancer as well as putting up a fight against the Lupus she is battling. All i can tell you is that it has Acai Berry,Goji Berry,Mangosteen, and 100 plus trace minerals.I ordered a free bottle from this website www.acaipluslife.com and the product is called Acai Plus. The Principles will tell you, lack of minerals and all most every ingredient in this product is in that book! Great book by the way!I just seen this article and wanted to comment! Steve

It's more dependant upon taking responsibility for personal actions, living in a state of awakend conciousness ... accountable to self, society, then any higher power or belief spirititual or philosiphy of ethics and morals... I had to learn who I was/am and know that each morning I still have to give an account to myself since I will have to answer for myself including body weight. I recognized I was appeasing my pallete and tongue... over involved in the senses of mmmm this taste good... one more bite, one more serving, I'm not grazing through the day and I'm not doing the midnight run through the cabinets with a pinch or this or handfull of that. I did not have to clean off the plates of my childrens food as not to waste if they scooped too much or just wasn't interested in what was served. I do allow myself to enjoy a snack from time to time so I don't feel deprived yet know within myself that this is my way of life from now on... eat normally to me is eating lower carb and even lower gluten. If I do eat meats it's not the whole chicken or rack of meat, not the whole cheese block... everything in moderation. Eating habits for me that go unregulated and un-moderated ... I will gain an average 3-5 lbs a week due to the metabolism of my particular body make, model, etc. (ha) One body does not fit all... find what works for ya... it is possible and stay positive! I don't need pills, bars, drink mixes... I did it all naturally by simply changing food choices and serving amounts. *** Low cost all the way! ***

Very touchy feely; not really saying much. I don't want a new age philosophy, I was looking for actual ideas. Our consciousness is great, our obesity is bad.

So, how much is Jenny Craig and WW paying you to promote their products? You can get support without paying for it. Pick the right friends, starting with yourself. Quit making excuses and buying into industries trying to steal your money. Do something positive for yourself or others, you will be too busy to over do anything. DUH.

Well, a lot of this article seems like current politics - our current gov't is based on fear tactics, and this book seems to be based on shame tactics - at best, the wording is awful, more than once suggesting that you're a cheat and a sneaker and should be ashamed for being overweight, but doesn't even really seem to address the health benefits of getting in shape! That negativity not a good motivator for most people. I've been through a lot with my weight - up and down a lot but mostly up. I'd reached 220 and got myself to 175 on a Program I bought... then I went right back up to 220, because I just like food, and the diet was very restrictive. I did it for months, and it took all my focus and energy. From that experience, I know I will never diet again... but, I'm still overweight, don't have enough energy, am not wearing the clothes I want, etc. So, I finally - FINALLY - decided to stop avoiding and start addressing learning to eat for life. I knew that if I simply learned to stop OVEReating, I'd lose weight. I picked up a book called "Intuitive Eating" and it took me about a year really ingrain the ideas into myself, but now it's easy, I'm done with dieting and yes I am losing weight, albiet slowly, about 2 lbs a month. I'm also getting 30 mins of exercise at least, almost every day, but that's more about strength and energy than weight loss. But I am SO excited that eating will not be a challenge for me anymore, and now I can truly enjoy it, and be connected to it, rather than rationing out some tasteless processed "health" meal.... Remember, ANY and EVERY diet will work short term - their failure (notice I said theirs and not yours) is that they don't address real life, and coping with that is often left up to you. The idea should be to put food in its proper place - not to give it so much power over your emotional state. Anyway, the book does a better job than I will.
