Well, a lot of this article seems like current politics - our current gov't is based on fear tactics, and this book seems to be based on shame tactics - at best, the wording is awful, more than once suggesting that you're a cheat and a sneaker and should be ashamed for being overweight, but doesn't even really seem to address the health benefits of getting in shape! That negativity not a good motivator for most people.
I've been through a lot with my weight - up and down a lot but mostly up. I'd reached 220 and got myself to 175 on a Program I bought... then I went right back up to 220, because I just like food, and the diet was very restrictive. I did it for months, and it took all my focus and energy. From that experience, I know I will never diet again... but, I'm still overweight, don't have enough energy, am not wearing the clothes I want, etc. So, I finally - FINALLY - decided to stop avoiding and start addressing learning to eat for life. I knew that if I simply learned to stop OVEReating, I'd lose weight. I picked up a book called "Intuitive Eating" and it took me about a year really ingrain the ideas into myself, but now it's easy, I'm done with dieting and yes I am losing weight, albiet slowly, about 2 lbs a month. I'm also getting 30 mins of exercise at least, almost every day, but that's more about strength and energy than weight loss. But I am SO excited that eating will not be a challenge for me anymore, and now I can truly enjoy it, and be connected to it, rather than rationing out some tasteless processed "health" meal....
Remember, ANY and EVERY diet will work short term - their failure (notice I said theirs and not yours) is that they don't address real life, and coping with that is often left up to you. The idea should be to put food in its proper place - not to give it so much power over your emotional state. Anyway, the book does a better job than I will.
