4 More Ways to Save Your Relationshp Posted Mon, Apr 23, 2007, 7:58 am PDT

Last week we examined some strategies to save your relationship.  Since so many of us struggle with this issue, let's take a look at four more ways to improve your home life.

STOP BEING THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE

I can be a pretty selfish person in a relationship.  If I don't maintain my spiritual health, I find myself thinking about myself, my problems, my dreams, and my fears non-stop.  In other words, me, me, and me!  Not only is this selfish, it is painful.  By focusing on the well being of our partners, we help not only them but also ourselves.

SPIRITUAL LOVE

Many families attend religious services together and grow closer during those times.  You and your partner may not be religious but that doesn't mean that you can't find spiritual activities to share.  Whether it is a walk in nature, a regular yoga class, or meditation at home, spiritual activities help couples to let go of petty annoyances and remember what they love in one another.

LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE
We can get so fed up with our loved ones after years together.   You know those tiny habits that make you crazy?  Bad table manners!  Snoring!  Watching TV at full blast!  Remember, none of us is a picnic to live with over the long run.  What are your bad habits and broken behaviors that are conveniently forgotten when you are finding your spouse annoying?

CLEAN UP YOUR MESSES
And I'm not talking about dirty dishes!  I'm talking about not letting the emotional messes you've created sit and fester for years.   Cleaning up my bad behavior might start with an apology but, if I really want to stay in the relationship, it also includes a commitment to try and do better in the future.

Now that Valentine's Day is long over and your anniversary might be months away, will you translate those romantic murmurs into a commitment to do the hard work of saving your relationship?  I hope so.  It is completely worth it!
