You said: "When we act on impulse, especially in response to stress and strong emotions, we don't give ourselves time to make more rational decisions. When you're headed to the cookie jar after some kind of emotional distress, interrupt the process and distract yourself. This can be as simple as taking a walk around the block before eating or taking out the garbage. Sometimes those few moments of distraction are enough to circumvent behavior that will only make you feel worst." Great suggestions! I used to eat constantly while sitting at my computer, but I'm finding that the computer surfing and blogging are enough to keep my mind busy. The snacking was just an unnecessary habit that I don't need as long as my mind is busy. Thanks for the suggestions!

Try to eat 5 times a day. The portions have to be small. That could help with the emotional eating. Try eating more fruits and vegetables.

This was very enlightening. My husband, who is also my lover and best friend, is leaving for deployment to Iraq for a year. I have been so sad about this but haven't wanted to face how sad I actually am. So eatting and shopping have been my outlets. I have gained 20 lbs. since we found out he was going to have to do this deployment. I feel like the beginning of healing just took place today by reading this article. Thank you.
