I tan because I have scorisus. It is the only thing that takes them away. The pain is to much as a women not to be able to wear shorts or even shave for that matter. I went 10 years plus without wearing shorts. I dont like wearing pants in 100 degree weather. So my question is does sun still hurt my skin when i have so many damaged layers anyway?

Nothing new for those of us who enjoy tanning. It truly "charges my batteries", and just plain "feels good". So let's not complicate it, people.

I have been an avid indoor tanner since I was 16 years of age. I am 9 months pregnant so have been out of the loop that long; but I have always told people that I was completely addicted to tanning and no one ever believed me. I can't wait to start tanning again!!!

I have an itchy rash for the past 6 years. It circulates my body attacking the back for a while and then the arms or chest. By tanning once a week for 10 minutes seems to help. I have been to several derms and an allergist. No one can explain this rash. I have been given the okay by a derm md to continue with this regime. If you can tell me of something else to do or who to see, I am willing to do or try anything. Thank you.

As I am sure you know tanning indoors can actually be very smart, not just dangerous. By tanning indoors (so you get that endorphin fix or just the color you want) helps you develop a base tan in a controlled enviornment so that when you are exposed to the sun outdoors you have more protection from the randomness of mother nature. I am no doctor, but I tan indoors and outside and definiatley feel that it is addictive. After a while without UV I crave it.

I have been in the tanning industry for over 16 years and I definately think that tanning has an addictive effect for some people, but I think that it comes from the fact that tanning makes people feel good and tanning makes people look good. Some people are definately addicted to looking good. www.bestindoortanninglotion.com

This article makes a lot of sense. I am a Brazilian living in Minnesota for 6 years, and I can say I get really depressed most of the time. I even need pills, which changes when the short summer arrives here, I feel so much better and happy on summer. I spent my whole life in a sunny place and I guess my body misses it.

OMG, I LOVE to bask in the sun, every chance I get ! It's so relaxing ! I feel rejuvenated afterwards, spirits lifted, re-energized, & look better too ! Sorry, But I'll take looking good & feeling good over the alternative anyday, Even if it shortens my days !

I was addicted to tanning until I got skin cancer. I still crave tanning but don't do it anymore. It was really hard to dispose of all my tanning preparations, like an alcoholic pouring his booze down the drain. In early March I tanned in my south facing garage, I used tinfoil to enhance the sun. I went to the beach every day and stayed for four hours, sitting with my chair in the water. It was somewhere to go and something to do and I still feel empty without it.

The study should also differentiate between locations of the tanners. Twenty minutes of sun exposure in some areas may be adequate to generate enough Vitamin D, however, this varies the further north of the equator one lives.
