I wsn't tanning for "cosmetic" reasons either (psoriasis) and I'll tell you, melanoma is a scary, scary, scary diagnosis. And while your eczema might be uncomfortable, it won't kill you either. Look, there are other options. You just need to decide. But I'll tell you that going to an oncologist every 6 months and a derm every 3 months and having tests run to see if your cancer has returned is a heck of a way to live the rest of your life. And if it does come back it's probably not going to be easy to cure. In fact, your chance of cure are very slim with each reoccurance. You may thin the ecxema is the "worst" but I'll trade you. I am missing a nice 8" section of leg thanks to my melanoma. I'd gladly take the eczema.

Why do the majority of white people want to be so tanned or brown when they are so different to blacks?

Please beware of warnings about tanning. I just had an operation removing skin cancers from the back of my right hand and right forearm. If these tumors had been on my face....I would be disfigured. By the way, I was only an occasional tanner and only used a tanning bed less than a dozen times. Sun exposure can be lethal. I have used sunscreen on my face since age 21. I am 57 now. Didn't think the back of my hands or forearms were worth the trouble...

I am addicted! I feel so much better when I have been in the sun. I even find myself thinking I'm not very tan, when in fact, I'm quite dark...

I go to tanning every other day and it makes my skin glow and beautiful..It brings out the natural brown color. People are just envious if you have nice brown skin....

LADIES - PLEASE STOP TANNING I am 32 years and I am not addicted to tanning and I had a mole that tested positive for Skin Cancer - Squamash Cell Carcinoma. This did not look like a mole. It looked like a little pimple that was not going away. It was only on my shoulder for 3 weeks. I went for a facial and asked the nurse in the doctors office to take a look. It tested positive for cancer. I never ever expected this. I am fair skin with light hair. I love the sun and beach too. But now I know I have to be careful and be in the shade. It is just not worth it. When I went to get this removed, yesterday, I was the only one in the doctors office that did not have to get the Mohs Surgery procedure done on my face!!!! I would have been extremely sad to lose my check or ear. I threw out all oils and tanning lotion. It is important to protect yourselves. It is not worth it to diet exercise and look pretty and then lose it all to something that is TOTALLY preventive. Stop the addiction. Use block with Zinc in it. You will be much prettier without chunks of your body removed.

I have to agree with so many of these comments. I am totally addicted to tanning. I do not feel good about myself without one. I have been tanning for 35 years indoor and outdoor and I am Italian and Spanish so I get a deep bronze color. You do get alot of attention! When people ask me if I worry about skin cancer, I say no; at least I will be tan in my coffin.
