Your skin is the largest organ and a protective one. It reflects your diet. Did our grandmothers use facials? I don't think so. No time. Why? They had to work 14 hours a day just to feed the large families.

Brenda kay( brennie)Winters, to a large extent I would agree with that, but it's not the only factor. Environmental factors can also contribute your skin condition. Factors such as whether you live in a polluted city or a rural location, whether your water is hard or soft etc..,. Other internal factors such as stress and other medical conditions can also play a big part.

Stress is a particularly crucial factor. Women who are in very negative relationships with an unloving spouse or extremely difficult children are very prone to show their age or look prematurely aged.

I am going on 47 this year and I don't ever get facials.I have gotten into a terrible habit of not washing or moisturising my face for 2 or 3 days at a time.I have 5 children, got a bad habbit of leaving no time for me but discovered I can shower everyday but leave the face.On the 3rd day in the shower or bath I wet my face often then before I get out I use my fingertips in a circular motion on my face to take off dead skin.I am always shocked how much skin comes off, then use a milk cleanser with a face washer, rinse and get out. I moisturise(skin doctors) and my face is as tight as a drum,no wrinkles & very clear.I took my 14 yr old to a skin specialist for some pimples & she didnot beleive my routine & said I had fantastic skin.I was very embarrased to tell my bad habbit but my daughter spoke out first. TRY IT.

Why of course we need Daily Facials for our skin. As we grow older, our skin care needs change. The skin is the first to show symptoms of fatigue, stress, poor diet, environmental assault and , of course, age. Whether the skin is dry, combination or oily, we all have the same basic needs when it comes to taking care of our skin. Every person needs the basics of skin care which includes: • Cleansing • Moisturizing • Protecting • Exfoliating As we grow older, our skin care needs change. I have adult cystic acne which is, thankfully, back under control with Minocycline and Tazorac. For a time, I was getting regular facials from a highly-recommended aesthetician, who disagreed with my use of a retinoid (I was then using Retin-A Micro.) As I moved away from the retinoid to the "natural" products she was pushing, my breakouts were getting worse and worse. She claimed it was an adjustment period, after which I'd have beautiful skin. Well, that never happened, and now I have scars to boot. I'm sticking with my dermatologist.

I think that your first comments of Dec. 2008, concerning facials was miss leading and unfair. It seemed to be aimed at getting attention, rather then expressing concern or the true affects of facials. As in any profession, there are those who are well trained and educated. There are those who are not. I was glad to see that you corrected yourself, but it still makes me question your motive and credentials. And if I should take your opinions with a grain or two of salt.

IEttention DR Leslie Bouman have been an esthetician for 36 years. I got my training in Russia, Canada and USA. Now I am an Esthetician instructor at Manatee Technical Institute, Florida. I can't believe this artical. All over the world estheticians work in the salons, spas, very close with dermatologists and plastic sergeons. In Russia you should have a nursing degree in oder to take esthetician class. Being in USA for 20 years I mensioned how many people have now idea how to ta ke care of there skin. In Russia no plastic sergeons will do any ritodectomy or any other sergery befor there clients will get 10 facial every other day- that's a protocol. How can you just cross out this industry. You should promote it and get a better education for estheticians. I am really dissepointed in your article.

Hey everyone, Another great LOCAL organic skincare company that is certififed is MADE FROM EARTH. I have been using their products for the last 6 months - and now stopped!! Because my skin has naturally improved itself and I have seen a real decline in the amount of wrinkles on the side of my eyes. I would recommend the "VITAMIN ENHANCED FACE FIRMING SERUM". This is the cream I only used for 6 months and now stopped because it naturally has improved my owns skins ability to heal itsefl and become firmer. As a body lotion, I use the HONEY HONEY cream. Smells like honey. Definitely check them out and they are way better priced than most organic skin care lines. . .the website is madefromearth.com

I use a face cream that has powerful antioxidants from real blue berries. . .its from this organic and chemical free company called Made from Earth. It’s the “Three Berry Serum”. . .It has actual berries in it which are mixed with the lotion and applied to your face. Plus, I have sensitive skin and don’t put any chemicals in my body, and this one of the few face creams I have found that is 100% chemical free . . Seriously - toxic synthetic chemicals in your lotions are not necessary. Human skin is porous which means that substances we put on our skin are absorbed directly into our bloodstream. This means these chemicals may end up in your liver or other organs.
