Interesting article. Thanks Dr. Baumann. I have a question: if I'm putting sunscreen on my lips - does that mean that sunscreen is safe to eat?? Aren't there some concerns about nanoparticles and oxybenzone and their safety?

Hi- Interesting point. I have to wonder though.. how safe it is to willingly ingest sunscreen and the compounds/chemicals that make these sun protection formulas? There have been recent reposts of how harmful these sunscreens can be when just used on "skin" let alone a place where ingestion is sure! - Lisa

One suggestion is to just use natural butter that you get when your churn milk or butter milk (buttermilk is nothing but diluted yogurt). Women have been doing this for ages in India and it works. Don't forget, India is hotter and perhaps much less protected from UV (given the pollution levels) than US or Europe. The SPF products might be good- I do not know- but if you can just produce the butter yourself, and you need only a pinch a day, why go for these expensive processed stuff?

It's true because I know when I put some lip gloss on I start to feel my lips dry after awhile.

So.... do you have recommendations on SPF lip? I've only seen Neutrogena's SPF 15 but that doesn't look like it's enough.
