Hi,
I did not know anything about you or your treatments until I found your book on skin care in a charity shop near to where I live. I did the questionaire and have skin type DRNT. I was really surprised to learn that I have such a good skin type. I have always looked after my skin from about 15 year old using a cleanser, toner and moisturiser morning and evening. I stopped using the toner when I reached 40 years old because I noticed it was drying my skin. Of course reading your book I now realise it was a NO NO right from the start.
I noticed when I used creams on my face they never dried in and my skin surface was always shiny, however it never detered me from continuing to wear it or use sunscreen (Factor 50 in summer and 30 in winter). (I lhave lived on mainland Spain for 21 years where there is a lot of humidity, which I now know, thanks to you, this is the best climate for my skin type instead of in Scotland where I originate from.) Because of the cream appearing not to soak in but sit on top of the skin, ( I realise now it is because I have resistant skin) I decided to investigate further into this and into other products which would be suitable. I didn“t not want to waste a lot of money on useless products either so that was the other reason for the research. Basically I started to use acids on my face. Ascorbic acid (5%) and hylauronic acid (Estee Lauder Advance Night Repair) as they work well together and acclerate the process of boosting collagen or preserve what you have. I have looked on your list and only see the hylauronic acid recommended for the moisture it gives to your skin. should I in fact stop using the ascorbic acid? Apart from these two items I would use a moisturiser at night (NIVEA for example or EUCERIN). Then once a week I would give my skin a deep clean with a facial. I would exfoliate, deep clean, then use another facial pack to nourise the skin usually applied with a facial massage machine, then mosituriser. I noticed you do not mention anything about facials in the chapter for the DRNT skin type, should I no longer continue with this?
I went to a dermatologist about a few years ago ( I am 42 years old now, by the way) because I noticed a brown spot appear on my forehead, I thought it may be hormone changes because of my age or something. (I do not smoke, drink alcohol nor do I take regular medication or anything.) I had been using the AVENE factor 40 with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to protect my skin from the sun. I really feel it is the sun that has caused the damage rather than hormones as I have never been pregnant either. I cover up well, even my arms etc and never sun bathe, most people think I have just arrived in Spain from abroad because my skin is very pale. I took all the products I was using on my skin with me to the consultancy. The dermatologist was not a cosmetic dermatologist and knew nothing about skin treatments like laser or anything like that.I had a private medical policy and the visit did not cost me anything that is why I chose to go there. He gave me a product called
FLAVO C which is serum with 8% ascorbic acid and it also has ginko biloba. It costs about 30 euros for 15ml from the chemist. It is a very good product. I asked him about my skin and he said my skin was in excellent condition and the brown spot was very little. Of course it is still there but I have not purchased any product to bleach it either, not wanting to end up like Michael Jackson! Ascorbic acid is good for the prevention of brown spots, so I read ,but I have not been putting it on religously for consecutive months as I was unemployed for a while and money has been tight too.
I changed my diet to mostly alkaline and not acid eating plenty of fruit, veg (raw and steam), eating flaxseed and sunflower seeds, I do not mix protein with carbohydrate a
