My daughter did go to her doctor and all he did was look at her head and tell her "it's just your time to lose your hair" and did no tests of blood or anything! The women in our family have good heads of hair so I really don't think it is genetics. I think my daughters hormones are off and one doctor said so and wanted her to go to her M.D. to get tested but when tested the doctor said no but I know you can't count on that. I had low thyroid but it took a very low does to correct, that most of the doctors my mom took me too told her there was nothing wrong. But when she found the one doctor that said yes and treated me for it, wow! what a difference it make in how I felt and looked. Now I have diabetes and my hair is thinning but I thought it was do to diabets but it could be my thyroid but I know I won't find a doctor that will tell me so or treat it. Thank you for the information but there doesn't sound like there is much to treat it with that isn't costly.

So, what if I'm losing hair due to a change in oral contraceptive? What would you recommend I do? I can't just start re-taking them. Please let me know if you have other recommendations. It's likely to be due to that rather than iron.

Hair loss is a serious issue but it is not hopeless. If you want your hair to look and stay healthy, you need to be sleeping on a satin pillowcase. I had heard a lot about them from friends and also from my stylist. She told me that cotton causes friction leaving you with split ends and frizzes. It also is naturally absorbent so it pulls the moisture from your hair and skin. The combination of dried out hair along with weakened ends due to the friction that cotton creates is also one of the causes of hair breakage and hair loss. When sleeping on satin, your hair just slides across the top and doesn't get stuck in one spot like it does when sleeping on cotton. I switched to a satin pillowcase and I’ve seen a huge difference in my hair and also with my skin. I don’t wake up with those pillowcase lines on my face in the morning either. I found a website that has a page devoted to the benefits of sleeping on satin and they had some absolutely beautiful prints and solid pillowcases. The company is A Touch Of Satin. Google their website if you want to read about the benefits. Well, I hope this helps you out.
